The cycle promoted by La Capsa and the Jardines de la Pau Civic Centre has brought together young people aged 11 to 13 to create video games and experiment with sound. The proposal culminated in a showcase open to the public.
El Prat de Llobregat has wrapped up a new edition of Videojocs&Música, the cycle that combines video game creation with sound experimentation, which took place during July. The initiative, driven by La Capsa and the Jardines de la Pau Civic Centre, involved young people aged between 11 and 13, who explored programming, electronics, and sound from a creative perspective.
The creation process began on June 25 and 26 at the Jardines de la Pau, where the entity Creatic held a video game creation workshop using MakeCode Arcade. Over two days, participants designed and programmed their own games, working on both the mechanics and the visual universe of each proposal.
The second phase of the project moved to La Capsa on June 29, July 6, and July 13, with circuit bending workshops led by the collective Soldadores Estanyo. In these sessions, the young people opened electronic toys, modified their circuits, and transformed them into sound instruments that were later used to provide sound for the video games created during the project.
In this way, the programming work and sound experimentation were connected in a single creative experience. Participants not only learned to create their own games but also discovered how sound can be part of the design process.
At the same time, the cycle included activities open to the public. On July 8, students from the Live Arts School held a jam session where a game of Tetris guided live musical improvisation, establishing a dialogue between the video game and its sound design.
The highlight came on July 15 with an open showcase outside La Capsa. The young people presented the video games developed during the weeks of work, explained their creation process to the attending public, and invited everyone present to play with their creations. The sound creations made during the circuit bending workshops were also part of the showcase, demonstrating how both creative processes went hand in hand.
The initiative has once again opted for an approach to video games that goes beyond playing, turning them into a space for experimentation, creation, and knowledge sharing. Programming, electronics, and sound have been combined to offer young people a formative and playful experience at the same time.
The Videojocs&Música cycle has established itself as a reference proposal in the municipality, providing adolescents with the opportunity to develop technical and creative skills in a collaborative environment. The active participation of young people has been one of the strong points of this edition, according to the organizers.
With this new edition, El Prat de Llobregat reinforces its cultural and educational offerings during the summer, with activities that combine leisure and learning. The positive reception of the proposal suggests that the cycle will continue in future editions, expanding its reach and impact on the community.
For those who could not attend the final showcase, the organizers remind that activities and workshops are announced through the usual channels of La Capsa and the Jardines de la Paz Civic Centre. A new call is expected next summer to continue exploring the universe of video games and music.
