The municipal council of Molins de Rei approved on Thursday the creation of the 'Corner of Joan Janés i Cogul' in the gardens of the October Square, with a commemorative plaque. It also greenlit the strengthening of the Urban Guard and the continuation of the Chair of Renaissance Studies.
The municipal council of Molins de Rei approved on Thursday the creation of the 'Corner of Joan Janés i Cogul' in the gardens of the October Square, a space intended to provide a permanent tribute to the human, sporting, cultural, associative, and institutional trajectory of this figure linked to the municipality. The agreement includes the installation of commemorative elements, among which there will be an identifying and explanatory plaque.
The project will first undergo a public information process so that residents can present objections or suggestions before its final execution. This is one of the highlighted measures from the ordinary session in July, which also addressed other relevant matters for the functioning of the council.
In the area of security, the council approved the modification of the job positions of the City Council with the creation of a new inspector position for the Urban Guard, as well as the corresponding position in the civil service staff. This call responds to the desire to anticipate a future retirement and ensure adequate planning for the transition.
According to the municipal government, this strengthening will improve the capacity for coordination and supervision of the different areas in which the Urban Guard is organized. The measure aims to ensure the continuity of service and an orderly transition at a time of generational change.
Regarding the cultural area, the council approved the collaboration agreement between the University of Barcelona and the City Council of Molins de Rei to ensure the continuity of the Chair of Renaissance Studies, affiliated with the UB. The agreement, valid for three years, provides for a municipal contribution of 20,000 euros annually until 2028.
This funding will consolidate the study and dissemination of this historical period, promoting research and the dissemination of the municipality's history. The chair is a reference for local research, and its continuity guarantees the work done over the past years.
Finally, the council also approved the extension of the concession period for the municipal swimming pool to the Molins de Rei Swimming Club, which will now extend until 31 March 2043. The agreement is conditional on the club presenting the complete basic project within one year.
This is the first step towards advancing the modernization of a facility regularly used by nearly 3,000 people throughout the year. The proposal is the result of extensive joint work between the City Council and the Molins de Rei Swimming Club, and establishes the work plan to define the future remodeling of the facilities.
The remodeling of the pool is one of the most anticipated actions by the citizens, as the current facilities have shortcomings that need to be addressed. The extension of the concession gives the club the necessary legal security to invest in improvements, which will need to be specified in the project to be presented in the coming year.
The council also addressed other internal management matters, although these are the most significant due to their impact on the daily lives of the residents of Molins de Rei. The creation of the tribute space, the police reinforcement, and the continuity of the chair are examples of municipal activity in different areas.
The 'Corner of Joan Janés i Cogul' will join the existing commemorative elements in the municipality, and it is expected that the plaque will include information about his life and work. Residents who wish to contribute suggestions will be able to do so during the public information period, which will open soon.
With all these decisions, the council aims to respond to the needs of the municipality and prepare the ground for future actions. The next plenary session is expected to be in September, after the summer break.
