Barcelona's firefighters maintain the preventive device against forest fires with 208 patrols and 42 pre-alerts, and renew the fleet with seven new light urban fire engines for €3.47 million.
The City Council of Barcelona announced this Friday that it will maintain preventive reinforcement and operational resources in the forest area until the end of September, with a balance confirming very limited fire incidents within the municipal area. Between April 22 and July 31, Barcelona's firefighters intervened in 2 forest fires with a total affected area of 0.48 hectares.
The forest campaign, which began in May, has been developed with a specific device that includes the Vallvidrera Park in Collserola, operational throughout the summer. The firefighters have conducted 208 preventive patrols in Collserola and urban-forest interface areas, checking access points, paths, hydrants, and water sources to ensure a rapid response in case of emergency.
Additionally, 42 weather pre-alerts have been activated, of which 10 reached critical levels. This system, based on temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed, allows for the anticipation of device activation and enhances monitoring in high-risk areas.
At the same time, Barcelona's firefighters have assisted in extinguishing four fires outside the city, in Montcada i Reixac, Tiana, Gavà, and Cervelló, with a total affected area of about 77 hectares.
Fleet Renewal
The 2026 campaign is marked by the addition of seven new light urban fire engines, awarded for a total of €3,472,318.85. These vehicles, designed to operate in narrow streets, have a 1,400-litre tank, foam agent reservoir, and high and low-pressure systems, capable of pumping up to 2,000 litres per minute at low pressure and 400 at high pressure.
The new vehicles join the four pick-ups and the advanced life support ambulance added in the previous campaign, improving mobility and response in hard-to-access areas. The City Council emphasizes that these features allow for quicker action in the early stages of a fire.
Barcelona's firefighters remind that August and September remain high-risk months and keep the device fully operational. The council calls on citizens to exercise caution in natural spaces and reminds them that prevention remains the best tool to protect Collserola.
