The Barcelona City Council has deactivated the Municipal Action Plan for Forest Fire Risk in alert phase, following the Generalitat's decision to deactivate level 3 of the Alfa Plan in the Barcelonés. The risk of fire has decreased significantly in Collserola and other green areas of the city.

The Barcelona City Council has concluded the alert phase of the Municipal Action Plan for Forest Fire Risk, activated since July 7. The improvement in weather conditions has allowed the Generalitat to deactivate level 3 of the Alfa Plan in the Barcelonés region, prompting the council to reduce the emergency response. From now on, the municipal plan will move to a pre-alert status, which will be activated only when weather conditions become extreme again.

Prohibitions that Remain and Recommendations to Citizens

Despite the deactivation of the alert, the City Council insists on the need to maintain maximum caution. Since March 15, it has been prohibited to carry out forestry work or any activity that could generate sparks within 500 metres of forested areas. This includes burning waste and barbecuing in high-risk zones. The order remains in effect, and non-compliance may result in penalties.

The Fire Prevention and Extinction Service (SPEIS) of Barcelona maintains its reinforced measures until mid-September, as part of the forest campaign that began in early June. The city's firefighters remain on alert to protect the nearly 1,800 hectares of the Collserola park that belong to the municipality of Barcelona. These green areas are spread across the districts of Les Corts, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, Horta-Guinardó, and Nou Barris.

A High-Risk Summer Coming to an End

The activation of level 3 of the Alfa Plan on July 7 was in response to a heatwave that raised the fire risk to extreme levels across the province. During those days, emergency teams conducted intensive surveillance at the entrances to Collserola and limited outdoor activities in the most sensitive areas. Now, with a return to more moderate temperatures and the forecast of light rains in the coming days, the danger has subsided.

For the residents of Barcelona, especially those living on the slopes of Collserola or frequenting its paths, the deactivation of the alert is a relief. However, the City Council reminds that summer is not over yet and any thermal spike could reactivate the plan. The recommendation is clear: in the event of any column of smoke, call 112 immediately.
