From October 2 to 4, Esparreguera hosts the sixth edition of La Palanca, Festival of Contemporary Circus, with over fifteen proposals including street and indoor shows, workshops, and school performances.
The sixth edition of La Palanca, Festival of Contemporary Circus, will transform Esparreguera into the epicentre of circus arts from October 2 to 4. This event, already established in the cultural calendar of Bajo Llobregat, will present a diverse programme that combines street and indoor shows, workshops for all ages, and itinerant proposals.
The festival will kick off on Friday, October 2, with a double inauguration: “EH?!”, by the Flying Pikmis company, a flying trapeze show that turns four workers and their chaos into a metaphor for resilience; and “Entre el cielo y la tierra”, by Circ Pistolet, an exhibition of acrobatic lifts that explores human fragility and the search for balance.
The closing will be marked by “Refugio”, a tightrope walking and balancing proposal by local artist Manolo Alcántara. A novelty for this edition is the inclusion of La Luma, a character played by Maria Coll who will act as the master of ceremonies and welcome the audience before each show.
The mayor of Esparreguera, Juan Jurado, has highlighted that “La Palanca is much more than a festival: it is a meeting space that, through art, brings people together and creates community.” The artistic directors, Sílvia Compte and Jordi Juanet (Boni), have assured that this year they present “a diverse programme, with companies exploring new languages.”
Before the festival, the social programme “Haz palanca por la inclusión” will bring circus to groups with special needs. Thanks to the collaboration of the Diputación de Barcelona, users from the Occupational Workshop of Can Comelles, from the FIL Foundation, and from the Municipal Residence of Can Comelles will participate in inclusive circus workshops. On September 29, all groups will attend the show “Absurdo”, by Circ Vermut.
The circus will also enter classrooms with the project “Discover the World of Circus”. From September 28 to 30, Tub d'Assaig 7,70 will conduct pedagogical workshops at the School of Arts, and on October 1, schoolchildren will be able to see the performance “Tenet”, by Eunoia Kolektiva, at the Teatro de La Pasión. The youngest will have their space on September 28 with “El Circo de Trapo”, a storytelling hour at the L'Ateneu Library.
On Saturday, October 3, the itinerant format “La Palanca se mueve” premieres, which fuses music and circus with the Always Drinking Marching Band and performances by Antonia González, Javier Garrido, and Circ Vermut. There will also be “Desorientat”, the pre-premiere of Guga within the CirCulem project.
