The Pla de Barris educational leisure programme arrives for the first time in the Gòtic and Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i La Ribera and extends until August 21, offering free workshops and outings for young people aged 12 to 16.
The Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona is launching this summer an educational leisure offer for teenagers that reaches the Gòtic and Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i La Ribera neighbourhoods for the first time. The programme, driven by the Pla de Barris, also extends through August, until August 21, and offers free workshops and outings for young people aged 12 to 16.
The activities, held three days a week (two afternoons of workshops and one outing), include disciplines such as performing arts, dance, visual arts, music, and circus, as well as visits to the beach, the pool, and cultural facilities in the area. They are part of the Raval Educatiu project, which is repeating its offer this year with over 80 free activities for children and teenagers during the summer period.
The deputy mayor and district councillor, Albert Batlle, highlighted that initiatives like this are key to reaching teenagers and showing them options for educational and free leisure in their immediate surroundings:
“As a nearby administration, we want them to know that there are facilities designed for them and leisure alternatives available right here in Ciutat Vella, without leaving their neighbourhood.”
For his part, the commissioner for the Pact for Ciutat Vella, Ivan Pera, emphasised that the programme helps connect young people in the district with community life and the construction of their immediate environment. The programme has been designed in collaboration with professional teams that work directly with teenagers in the Casc Antic and the Gòtic, aiming to create safe and attractive spaces during the summer, encourage youth participation in designing activities, and raise awareness of the cultural and community resources in the area.
This initiative is part of an educational leisure project that will be developed during the 2027 and 2028 school years, with activities also planned for weekends. With this expansion, the district reinforces its commitment to educational leisure in summer, reaching more neighbourhoods and extending the calendar beyond July.
