Rail traffic resumed on Sunday morning between Sant Andreu and Montcada i Reixac on lines R2, R2 nord and R11, according to Renfe. The disruption began on Wednesday due to a collapse in a well linked to underground works.
Rodalies trains are back in service from Sunday morning between the stations of Sant Andreu and Montcada i Reixac, as reported by Renfe. Lines R2, R2 nord and R11 had been interrupted since last Wednesday noon due to a collapse detected in a well related to the underground track works in Montcada i Reixac, on the border with Barcelona.
Adif, the railway infrastructure manager, announced that the repair works for the sinkhole were completed on Saturday. In the afternoon, Renfe conducted test runs to verify the stability and safety of the track before restoring the service. Ultimately, traffic has resumed, although a temporary speed limit remains in place at the affected point.
To stabilise the ground, 365 cubic metres of concrete and 1,930 cubic metres of mortar were used, with over a hundred workers mobilised who worked continuously since Wednesday. Additionally, on Saturday, the natural course of the Rec Comtal in the area was restored, which had been diverted during the stabilisation works.
Monitoring conducted by Adif has detected no movements or alterations in the platform or nearby buildings, the entity assured. However, a continuous monitoring system remains active while a technical investigation continues to determine the causes of the collapse, attributed to the geological and hydrogeological complexity of the area.
On another note, line R3 resumed service on Saturday night, after being suspended in the morning due to an incident in the railway traffic control system. This Sunday it continues to operate, although it is experiencing delays of over 30 minutes. Due to the works, travellers are advised to use line R4 as an alternative between L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Fabra i Puig/Montcada Bifurcació. A replacement bus service has been set up from the latter point to La Tor de Querol.
The resumption of service is a relief for the thousands of users who rely on these lines daily to travel between Vallès Occidental, Barcelonès and Barcelona. The speed limit may cause slight additional delays, but traffic is considered normalised. It is recommended to check updated schedules on Renfe's website or official apps before travelling.
