Bifurcació street in Can Sant Joan regains two-way traffic this Friday and debuts 77 parking spaces, 26 more than before the works.
The new semi-battery parking spaces on Bifurcació street, one of the main arteries of Can Sant Joan, have been operational since this Friday, 7 August, and with them, the two-way traffic of the road is restored. After nearly eight months during which only traffic towards Barcelona was allowed, residents can once again head towards the centre of Montcada i Reixac.
The closure was a result of the urbanisation works on the pavement of this road, alongside the Adif facilities. The works, which began in mid-January and have a budget of €850,000, have allowed for an expansion of pedestrian space and parking spaces. The number of car parking spaces has increased from 51 to 77 spaces, in addition to creating spaces for motorcycles.
The project has replaced the old cordon parking lane with a new semi-battery one, which has required partial use of the Adif slope. The underground containers have also been replaced with new surface ones, following the model being implemented throughout the municipality.
During the works, bus lines N23, 648, and 685 have had their routes altered, while lines 96 and 137-138 have not undergone changes. The forecast is that the works will be completely finished in September, when the gardening elements will be installed, as high temperatures currently prevent planting.
With this reopening, drivers in Can Sant Joan regain direct access to the centre of Montcada i Reixac, a relief for a neighbourhood that has suffered from limited access for months.
