Throughout the month of August, drivers will be able to park for free in more than 50% of the blue zone parking spaces in the urban area of Mataró.
The Mataró City Council, through the municipal company PUMSA, has announced that throughout the month of August, parking fees will be waived in more than half of the regulated surface parking spaces. Specifically, 401 of the 748 blue zone spaces in the urban area will be free, a measure that adapts to the lower occupancy of parking during the summer weeks.
However, regulation will be maintained in areas with a higher concentration of people and vehicles, especially around the beaches, commercial hubs, and municipal markets. The aim is to facilitate vehicle rotation and ensure better availability of spaces in these key points.
The areas that will be exempt from payment include the entirety of zone 4, with 164 spaces, and part of zone 1, with 237 spaces. In total, 401 free spaces represent more than 53% of the total. Drivers will be able to easily identify the free parking spaces as the corresponding parking meters will be out of service and will have informative signs indicating the date when the service will resume.
By zones, zone 1 will have 237 free spaces on the streets of Tetuan, Fra Luis de León, Catalunya, Francesc Milans, Altafulla, Llauder (section between Iluro and Ronda de la República), Camí Ral, Javier Castaños (section between Iluro and Ronda de la República), and Sant Cugat (section between Iluro and Ronda de la República). In contrast, 83 paid spaces will remain on the streets of Sant Josep Oriol, the lot between Palmerola and Deu de Gener, and sections of the streets of Iluro, Llauder, Sant Cugat, and Javier Castaños.
Zone 2, with 90 spaces, and zone 3, with 174 spaces, will continue to be paid throughout the month. Zone 2 includes Avinguda de Jaume Recoder and the streets of Cosme Churruca, Lepant, Germans Thos and Codina, and Federico Carlo Gravina. Zone 3 encompasses the lot of Can Maitanquis and the streets of Jaume Balmes and Damià Campeny.
Finally, zone 4, with 164 spaces, will be completely free on the streets of Jaume Isern, Plaça dels Bous, Carrer del Carme, La Riera, Carrer del Parc, Passatge dels Sisternes, and Ronda d'Alfons X el Savi.
This measure is part of the adaptation of the regulated parking service to the lower demand during August, a common practice in many coastal municipalities. For residents and visitors of Mataró, it represents economic savings and greater flexibility for parking in less busy areas, although it should be noted that areas near the beaches and the commercial centre will remain regulated to ensure rotation.
Free parking will be in effect from August 1 to August 31. From September onwards, payment will be reinstated in all blue zone spaces. Drivers can consult the detailed map of the zones on the municipal website or the PUMSA app.
