The new Gegant of Vic in Moorish attire is now available at the Ànima de Vic store, with a limited run of 200 units. The figure of the geganta will be released at the end of the year.

The City Council of Vic has expanded the collection of rubber gegants with a new figure that recovers the original clothing from 1862. This is the Gegant of Vic in Moorish attire, of which 200 units have been produced and are now on sale at the local store Ànima de Vic.

This initiative, driven by the council, aims to bring festive heritage closer to the youngest. The rubber figures have become a hit among children, who can play with them and learn about the history of the giants of the city. For years, Vic has been selling figures of the Comtes d’Osona, which have been very well received.

The Moorish attire is not a coincidence: the Gegants of Vic wore this outfit when they first appeared in 1862 and maintained it until 1891, when they were dressed in medieval clothing and became the Comtes d’Osona. Between 1910 and the late 1920s, they returned to wearing Moorish clothing, a period that is now reflected in this new rubber figure.

In 2021, in an exercise of historical memory regarding the gegants, the historical Gegants in Moorish attire were recovered, which can be seen in the Vic City Hall building. Now, with this rubber reproduction, children can have a replica at home and become familiar with this tradition.

The limited run of 200 pieces makes the figure a collector's item. Additionally, it is expected that the figure of the geganta will be released at the end of the year, thus completing the pair of historical Gegants of the city. Interested parties can purchase the figure at Ànima de Vic, the official store for souvenirs and local products.

With this initiative, Vic strengthens its commitment to promoting intangible heritage and brings popular culture closer to new generations. The rubber gegants have established themselves as a pedagogical and playful tool that allows children to identify and appreciate the emblematic figures of the city.
