The Sitges Tourism Advisory Council has reviewed the first half of the year, with 21,000 visitors served and a rating of 9.7 out of 10. The sustainability plan funded by Next Generation funds is entering its final phase.

The Sitges Tourism Advisory Council held its first annual meeting to analyse the sector's evolution during the first six months of 2026 and share the work lines for the second half. The session, chaired by the Tourism Councillor, Dani Martínez Berdala, served to confirm the good pace of execution of ongoing projects, focused on promotion, digitalisation, and sustainability.

According to the data presented by the council, the Tourist Offices have served over 21,000 people between January and June, with an average score of 9.7 out of 10. The analysis of the visitor profile confirms the importance of the international market and a growing interest in culture, beaches, events, and gastronomy, information that will guide future promotional campaigns.

In terms of general promotion, the council has organised five press trips with 41 international journalists, two commercial actions, and two familiarisation trips with 33 travel agency professionals. These actions have helped maintain Sitges' positioning in strategic markets such as the United Kingdom and Germany, and strengthen its presence abroad.

The Sitges Convention Bureau, the congress and meetings tourism programme, has also been very active: five networking actions with 295 professionals, eight fairs and working sessions with over 300 contacts, and four familiarisation trips. The aim is to consolidate Sitges as a business destination among the main international markets.

In the realm of digital tools, the PROA Tourist Accessibility Guide has established itself as a resource for businesses and tourism services to self-evaluate their level of accessibility. At the same time, promotional material has been updated and a grant line has been approved for restaurant and hospitality associations aimed at dynamisation projects.

The social media channels of Tourism continue to grow. Instagram, the main international showcase for the destination, has increased its followers by 30%; TikTok has grown by 35% and LinkedIn by 43%. The campaign 'Sitges, a destination that never rests' has been awarded the 2026 Publifestival Award for the best efficiency on social media.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the status of the Sustainable Tourism Plan in Destination (PSTD), funded by Next Generation EU funds. The City Council has completed the plan with a very high degree of compliance, with nine projects led by Tourism. During the second half, initiatives such as the Intelligence System, new promotional websites, and actions related to accessibility and business competitiveness will be presented.

Councillor Dani Martínez Berdala has positively assessed the results: "This first half confirms that Sitges' tourism strategy is moving in the right direction, with projects that reinforce international promotion, sustainability, and competitiveness." He added: "We face a second half with new initiatives that will allow us to continue innovating and working hand in hand with the sector to consolidate a quality tourism model."

The Council also learned about the new sustainable certification model promoted by the Barcelona Provincial Council, the 'Sustainable Barcelona Destination' label, which will continue the work done so far under the Biosphere certification. This distinction reinforces the leadership of public administrations in sustainability matters.

In the coming months, the calendar foresees new international promotion actions, projects linked to meeting tourism, the rollout of Next Generation projects, and the consolidation of an increasingly intelligent, sustainable, and quality-oriented destination model. Residents and visitors of Sitges will benefit from a more accessible and digitalised tourism offer, with improvements that will directly affect the travel experience.
