The Local Government Board of Sitges has given the green light to the hiring of the company that will carry out the renovation of the air conditioning system of the Mercat Municipal. Grants for cultural entities and a justification for a €40,000 aid to the Red Cross to improve accessibility of its building have also been approved.
The Local Government Board of Sitges approved on Monday the file to hire the company responsible for renovating the air conditioning system of the Mercat Municipal. The project, which already has the approval of the municipal body, aims to modernise the market's facilities to enhance user comfort and the building's energy efficiency.
According to the Sitges Town Hall, the renovation is part of the maintenance and improvement actions for municipal facilities. The exact cost of the work has not been detailed, but the tendering process will begin in the coming days, once the terms of reference are published.
In addition to the air conditioning, the Board has approved the justification for a nominative grant of €40,000 awarded to the Spanish Red Cross in Sitges. This aid, corresponding to the 2025 financial year, is intended for the purchase, construction, and installation of an elevator in the entity's building, with the aim of improving its accessibility.
In the cultural sphere, the local government has granted several subsidies to entities in Sitges to promote culture in various disciplines. Among the beneficiaries are the Ateneu Popular de Sitges, the Amics de la Sardana, the 48h Open House association, the Bufa Seca, and Cinema4you, among others.
The Ateneu Popular will receive aid for the dissemination of popular culture, while the Amics de la Sardana will allocate it to sardana activities. The 48h Open House association, which promotes architectural heritage, has also been subsidised for its activities in the town. The Bufa Seca, for its part, will organise the Festa de la Poesia, and Cinema4you will carry out the LGTBIQ+ film festival Endimaris.
In total, grants have been approved for a dozen entities, which must justify the use of the funds according to the terms of the call. The Town Hall has highlighted the importance of supporting the local associative fabric to energise the municipality's cultural offerings.
The Board has also reported on the extension of the collaboration agreement with the Generalitat de Catalunya for the 27 public places at the Centre de Dia L'Aplec, aimed at elderly people. The extension, requested for the year 2027, guarantees the continuity of this essential service for the elderly.
Furthermore, the first and only extension of the contract for the Servei d'Orientació i Acompanyament a les Famílies (SOAF), a municipal resource to support families, has been approved. The sponsorship contract between the Sitges Convention Bureau and the Events Managers Association (EMA) for tourism promotion has also been extended.
In the social sphere, the agreement with the Consell Comarcal del Garraf for the 'Joves en situació de vulnerabilitat' programme, which offers support to at-risk youth, has been extended. Additionally, a direct grant to the Associació de Famílies de l'escola Miquel Utrillo has been approved to reinforce monitoring during the summer camp of 2026 for children with special educational needs.
Finally, the Board has dismissed the allegations presented in the procedure for the protection of urban legality for works carried out on a single-family home on Trinitat street, number 15. The works, some of which are legalisable and others not, must comply with current urban regulations.
The Sitges Town Hall has reported that all agreements have been adopted unanimously and that the files will be processed in the coming days. Interested residents can consult the details of the grants and contracts on the municipal transparency portal.
