The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested two men aged 26 and 24 as the alleged perpetrators of a violent robbery against a woman with her young child, and for assaulting two officers during the arrest. Both had 24 prior convictions.

Two young men with extensive criminal records have been arrested in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat for a violent robbery committed on June 22. The events occurred when the suspects, who were riding an electric scooter on the pavement, approached a woman walking with her young child and stole her mobile phone.

A planned robbery with a scooter as the getaway vehicle

According to the investigation, the two detainees acted in a coordinated manner. While one rode the scooter and secured the getaway, the other executed the robbery by selecting victims who could be easily approached. In this case, the woman attempted to follow the thieves to recover her phone, but was unsuccessful.

Shortly after, the victim located one of the suspects and alerted a bystander to notify the police. Upon noticing the presence of the officers, the suspect fled on foot through several streets until he was intercepted and arrested by the Urban Crime Group of L'Hospitalet. During the arrest, he put up strong resistance and two officers sustained minor injuries.

Second arrest thanks to the same t-shirt

Subsequent investigations, carried out by the Repeat Offenders Group of the Southern Metropolitan Police Region in coordination with local police, allowed for the identification of the second suspect, who was arrested on July 6. At the time of his arrest, he was wearing the same t-shirt he had on the day of the robbery, which facilitated his identification.

Both detainees were classified as Active Offenders with Risk of Persistence (DARP), considered priority targets for the Mossos d'Esquadra due to their high criminal activity. The suspects had accumulated 18 and 6 prior convictions, respectively, placing them as high-risk repeat offenders.

Plan Bastion 2026 against recidivism

The arrests fall under the Plan Bastion 2026, a programme by the Mossos d'Esquadra aimed at reducing criminal recidivism in the metropolitan region. According to police sources, this plan prioritises the identification and arrest of the most active criminals, such as the two arrested, who together have a total of 24 prior convictions.

The two detainees were brought before the Guardia Court of L'Hospitalet, accused of a violent robbery, an assault against law enforcement officers, and two minor assault charges. The investigation remains open to determine if they are implicated in other similar incidents.

“These arrests are an example of the coordination between different police units to combat recidivism and ensure the safety of citizens,” highlighted sources from the investigation.

For the residents of L'Hospitalet, the message is clear: the police are taking action against the most active criminals. However, the case also underscores the importance of reporting any incidents and collaborating with authorities to facilitate the identification of suspects.

The woman who was the victim of the robbery, accompanied by her young child, did not suffer physical injuries, although the incident caused her a great scare. The injured officers, for their part, received medical attention and are recovering from their minor injuries.

The use of electric scooters as a vehicle for committing crimes has become an increasing concern in the area, as it allows criminals to move quickly and escape easily. Authorities recommend that citizens exercise caution, especially in less busy streets.
