The upcoming municipal council meeting in Vic on Monday includes motions regarding the prohibition of the burkini in public pools and a tax relief for the Diocese for works on the church of the Divine Shepherdess.
The Vic City Council will hold a plenary session on Monday, July 27, with an agenda that includes socially and urbanistically significant matters. Among the highlighted points are two motions: one from the CUP to facilitate sound limiters at cultural events and another from Som Vic to prohibit the burkini in municipal pools.
The motion presented by the municipal group Som Vic proposes that the council prohibits the use of the burkini in the city's public aquatic facilities. The initiative, which will be debated in the plenary, aims to regulate swimming in municipal pools under criteria of uniformity and safety, according to sources from the group.
Meanwhile, CUP Vic has registered a motion to facilitate the installation of sound limiters at cultural and festive events held in public spaces. The proposal aims to reconcile recreational activities with residents' rest, establishing technical mechanisms to avoid acoustic disturbances.
In the section of opinions, the file 8956/2026 stands out, which anticipates the approval of a tax relief on Construction, Installations, and Works (ICIO) for the Diocese of Vic. The financial aid will be allocated to the renovation works of the interior floors of the church of the Divine Shepherdess, a temple located in the city.
The plenary will also approve the validation of the omission of the intervention function (file 16427/2026) and will dismiss a request for reconsideration against a plenary agreement from June 1 (file 8995/2026).
In urban planning matters, two public space renovation projects will be submitted for final approval: the development of the Can Forcada square and the renovation of the Josep Maria Pericas square. Both projects, which have already undergone public exposure, will transform the urban landscape of Vic.
Additionally, two specific modifications to the Municipal Urban Planning Plan (POUM), numbers 5 and 6, will be initially approved, which will affect land regulation and buildings in the city. The initial approval of the regulation for the potable water supply service will also be granted, establishing the rules for domestic supply.
In the section for controlling the corporation's bodies, a report will be given on the list of decrees (from 5,494 to 6,116) and the minutes of the Local Government Board from the previous month.
The plenary session, which will begin at 18:00 in the council chamber of the Vic City Hall, will also include a question and answer session. Residents will be able to follow the debate in person or through the streaming broadcast provided by the council.
The prohibition of the burkini has generated intense social debate in recent years in several Catalan municipalities, while the tax relief for the Diocese is part of municipal aid for the conservation of local religious heritage.
