Setter Inés Victory, who played for Sant Cugat last season, has been included in the list of the Spanish women's volleyball team for the European Championship in Azerbaijan.
The Spanish women's volleyball team has now selected its 14 players for the European Championship, which will take place in August in Azerbaijan. Among them is a player with a background in Catalan volleyball: setter Inés Victory, who played for Sant Cugat last season and is now part of Emalsa Gran Canaria.
Victory, 24, developed in the youth categories of CV Sant Cugat and made the leap to the Superliga Femenina 2 with the Cugat team. Her progress led her to sign with Emalsa Gran Canaria, where she has had a great season that earned her a call-up from national coach Pascual Saurín.
The player, originally from Barcelona, is one of seven representatives from Canary Islands clubs on the list, but her ties to Catalan volleyball remain strong. In statements to the club, Victory expressed that she feels "very proud" to represent Spain and thanked the coaching staff for their trust.
"It is a dream come true to compete in a European Championship with the national team. I thank Sant Cugat for everything they taught me and Emalsa for giving me the opportunity to keep growing," said the setter.
The complete call-up includes, in addition to Victory, players from Heidelberg Volkswagen Lola Margarita Hernández and Patricia Aranda; receiver from Tenerife Libby's La Laguna Carolina Camino; centres Jéssica Akamere and libero Margarida Pizà, both from Emalsa Gran Canaria; and opposite Fatou Diop from Guía UFP Canarias.
The Spanish team is already concentrated at the High-Performance Centre in Los Alcázares (Murcia), where they are finalising preparations before travelling to Azerbaijan. The national team will play four friendly matches: two against Slovakia (12 and 13 August) and two against Hungary (16 and 17 August).
Spain has been placed in Group A of Eurovolley, alongside Belgium, Azerbaijan, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Romania. The team's objective is to advance past the group stage and compete for the top positions in the championship.
For Catalan volleyball, Inés Victory's presence at the continental event is a source of pride and a reflection of the good work being done at clubs like Sant Cugat. The setter has become an example for young talents in the region who aspire to reach the elite.
The women's European volleyball championship will be held from 18 August to 4 September in Baku, the Azerbaijani capital. The Spanish team will debut in the competition on 18 August against Belgium.
