Centre d'Esports Sabadell secured a draw (1-1) against RCD Espanyol this Friday at the Ciudad Deportiva Dani Jarque, in their second pre-season friendly.
Centre d'Esports Sabadell drew 1-1 against RCD Espanyol this Friday at the Ciudad Deportiva Dani Jarque, in Sant Adrià de Besòs. The striped team played their second friendly match of the pre-season, having previously thrashed Olot (0-3) and French side Pau (4-0) in earlier weeks.
The match, played behind closed doors, was evenly matched during the first half. Neither team managed to break the deadlock, although Sabadell had the clearest chance in the 40th minute: Pere Pons headed a cross from López Pinto, but his shot went wide.
After the hydration break, the game picked up pace. In the 73rd minute, Sabadell capitalised on a loss from Espanyol in midfield. Rodrigo Escudero found himself one-on-one with the local goalkeeper, and Rubén Sánchez, in his attempt to clear the ball, inadvertently put it into his own net, making it 0-1.
The response from the white and blue team was immediate. Four minutes later, in the 77th minute, Kike García received an assist from Roger Hinojo, outmuscled a striped defender, and beat the local keeper with a powerful cross-shot that levelled the score at 1-1.
Espanyol tried to secure the win to maintain their perfect record in pre-season. In the 90th minute, Pere Milla, after another cross from Roger Hinojo, connected with a header that hit the crossbar. There was no time for more, and the score remained unchanged.
Sabadell, competing in the Primera Federación, continues to prepare for the start of the season with these friendlies. The next commitment for the team led by the striped coach is scheduled for next week, although the calendar is not yet finalised.
The draw leaves a positive impression in the visiting dressing room, which competed evenly against a Segunda División rival. The striped team showed defensive solidity and the ability to react after the own goal, something the coaching staff values positively as they prepare the team.
The match took place at the Ciudad Deportiva Dani Jarque, the facilities of RCD Espanyol, without public attendance, as is customary in pre-season friendlies. Sabadell thus continues its preparation for the start of the league competition, which will begin in the coming weeks.
