The draw of the National Lottery this Saturday has left the first prize, worth 600,000 euros per series, entirely in Terrassa. Each ticket of number 28,920 is awarded 60,000 euros.

The number 28,920 has made Terrassa the epicentre of luck this Saturday. The first prize of the National Lottery draw, with a total of 600,000 euros per series, has been entirely sold in the city, as confirmed by Loterías y Apuestas del Estado. Each winning ticket is worth 60,000 euros, a sum that has brightened the weekend for the lucky winners.

The lottery administration responsible for the sale is located in Terrassa, although the name of the establishment and the exact number of tickets sold have not been disclosed. What is known is that the prize has corresponded to the complete series, meaning that all tickets of that number purchased in the city have won. The news has spread like wildfire among the locals, who are already speculating about who the fortunate winners might be.

A prize that stays at home

It is not common for the first prize of the National Lottery to fall in a single locality. In this case, Terrassa has captured the entire jackpot, leaving the second prize of 1.2 million euros in Aranda de Duero (Burgos). While the people of Burgos celebrated their second prize, the residents of Terrassa have been able to savour a first place that, according to sources from Loterías, has not been seen in the city for years.

The economic impact for Terrassa is significant: although the exact number of tickets sold has not been revealed, each series consists of ten tickets, so the total prize distributed amounts to 600,000 euros. An injection of liquidity that is always welcome in times of economic uncertainty. The lucky ones, mostly regular customers of the administration, have already started to come forward to confirm their luck.

“It is an immense joy to be able to give this prize to our customers, many of whom have been with us for a lifetime,” declared the manager of the administration, who preferred to remain anonymous.

Luck smiles on the city

Terrassa is no stranger to lottery prizes, but a first prize from the National Lottery is something that doesn’t happen every day. The last time the city made headlines for a draw was in 2023, when a ticket from the Christmas Lottery brought 20,000 euros to a bar in the city centre. Now, the amount is three times higher per ticket, which has generated an atmosphere of contained euphoria among the locals.

This Saturday's draw has been particularly generous to the province of Barcelona, as in addition to the first prize in Terrassa, other numbers have left smaller prizes in towns like Sabadell and Barcelona city. However, the focus is on the city of Terrassa, where the number 28,920 has become the most sought after. Those who did not buy it are already lamenting; those who did are starting to calculate how much they will receive after taxes.

For those who still do not know, the deadline to claim the prize is three months from the day after the draw. Winners can go to any authorised bank or to the offices of Loterías y Apuestas del Estado in Barcelona. However, they should keep the ticket well protected and preferably signed on the back to avoid any surprises.
