The Parets del Vallès City Council reminds how to prevent and treat bites from mosquitoes, ticks, and other animals common in summer, and calls for collaboration to avoid the proliferation of the tiger mosquito.
The Parets del Vallès City Council has launched a prevention campaign regarding insect bites and other animals, such as jellyfish or vipers, which intensify during the summer months. The council reminds that, although most bites only cause mild discomfort, some can provoke allergic reactions and recommends taking extra precautions outdoors.
Among the basic measures, the use of light-coloured clothing that covers the body and the application of repellents to avoid both mosquito and tick bites is highlighted. If a bite occurs, the recommendation is to wash the area well with water and neutral soap, and if the stinger is left embedded, to carefully remove it before disinfecting.
In the specific case of ticks, the City Council emphasizes the importance of removing it as soon as possible with tweezers, gently pulling from the head and mouth to avoid leaving any parts in the skin. Afterwards, the area should be cleaned with water and soap or disinfectant, and medical personnel should be consulted if the tick has not been completely removed, if discomfort persists, or if fever appears.
The tiger mosquito, recognizable by its white stripes on its head, body, and legs, is one of the biggest nuisances of summer due to the number of bites it causes. To prevent its presence, it is recommended to wear long sleeves and light-coloured trousers, install mosquito nets, and, above all, eliminate any accumulation of stagnant water outdoors, where it lays its eggs.
The council asks for citizen collaboration to prevent the insect from reproducing in private spaces. Pools, plant saucers, buckets, ashtrays, or containers should be kept covered or emptied frequently. Additionally, citizens are requested to notify municipal services if a proliferation of tiger mosquitoes is detected in public areas, parks, or leisure zones.
