Civil Protection in Abrera urges maximum caution following the warning from the Meteorological Service of Catalonia regarding heavy rain expected to hit the town and the Baix Llobregat this Thursday from 12pm to 6pm.
The Abrera Town Council has activated a prevention plan in light of the forecast for torrential rain that will affect the town and the entire Baix Llobregat region this Thursday, August 6th. The Meteorological Service of Catalonia has issued a warning predicting precipitation of up to 40 litres per square metre in 30 minutes between approximately 12.00 and 18.00 hours.
Civil Protection in Abrera is asking citizens to take extra precautions, especially regarding mobility and outdoor activities. The alert coincides with a working day in summer, so it is recommended to stay attentive to the weather developments.
Recommendations before the rain starts
The council has disseminated a series of practical advice. Before the rain begins, it is advisable to check the roofing and keep the downspouts and rainwater drains clean, especially in patios and rooftops, to avoid flooding. In basements and premises at risk of flooding, protective measures should be anticipated.
It is also advised to avoid parking vehicles in riverbeds, especially in areas near the mouth, where the flow can accumulate more forcefully and quickly. Previous episodes in the Baix Llobregat demonstrate the dangers of these areas.
Once the rain starts
When the precipitation begins, Civil Protection recommends not to stay near streams, rivers, and fords, and to avoid crossing riverbeds and torrents, as even if they seem to have a low flow, this can increase suddenly. If storms are accompanied by electrical activity, it is advisable to avoid standing under trees or power lines.
Extra precautions are also requested for outdoor activities in the affected areas and those located downstream of rivers. The weather warning affects the entire Baix Llobregat, but Abrera is one of the municipalities that may be more exposed due to its topography and the presence of streams.
For any emergencies, the designated phone number is 112. The Local Police of Abrera can also be contacted at 93 770 09 81. The Town Council recommends following official channels to stay informed about the evolution of the situation and any updates.
