The Castelldefels City Council has activated the Civil Protection Plan in pre-alert phase due to the warning from the Meteorological Service of Catalonia for heavy rains expected for the afternoon and evening of this Thursday, August 6.

The Castelldefels City Council has activated its Civil Protection Plan in pre-alert phase due to the Meteorological Danger Situation (SPM) warning from the Meteorological Service of Catalonia, which forecasts heavy precipitation for the afternoon and evening of this Thursday, August 6.

The meteorological episode is expected between 14:00 today and 02:00 on Friday morning. The showers, which will be of strong intensity, may be accompanied by thunderstorms, strong gusts of wind, hail or sleet.

The main risk is concentrated in the time frame from 14:00 to 20:00, with a danger level of 4 out of 6 for rainfall intensity in 30 minutes. The probability of exceeding 40 mm in half an hour is low (between 10% and 30%), while the probability of exceeding 20 mm in the same period is high (more than 70%).

In the medium term, the warning also includes a danger level of 1 out of 6 for rainfall intensity over three hours, with a low probability (10%-30%) of exceeding 60 mm accumulated in that period. The same danger level applies to rainfall intensity in 30 minutes, with a low probability of exceeding 20 mm.

In light of this situation, the city council has implemented a series of preventive actions under the plan. Among them are the cleaning of critical and main drains, monitoring and cleaning of watershed heads, and supervision of sea outlets.

Control of the operation of pumping stations and management of access has also been planned to implement possible cuts, diversions, and alternative routes if necessary. Municipal staff are organized with shifts to act in case the emergency materializes.

The risk situation outlined in this statement will be considered concluded without the need for a closure communication from Civil Protection once the specified meteorological period ends, provided that the information is not updated with a new warning.

The Castelldefels City Council recommends that citizens exercise extreme caution during the coming hours, especially during travel and outdoor activities, and to follow the instructions of emergency services.
