The Department of Health has opened a new public information period for the creation of ABS Castelldefels-3, linked to the future CAP La Muntanyeta. Objections can be submitted until 5 August 2026.
The Department of Health of the Generalitat has reactivated the process of modifying the basic health areas (ABS) of Castelldefels with the publication of a new decree in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat of Catalonia (DOGC) on 15 July 2026. This procedure opens a period for objections that ends on 5 August 2026, according to the established working days.
The initiative foresees the creation of the new ABS Castelldefels-3, which will be linked to the future CAP La Muntanyeta, as well as the modification of the boundaries of the current ABS Castelldefels-1 and Castelldefels-2. The aim is to improve healthcare in the city, which currently has two basic health areas.
This new public information period is not the first. Between July and September 2025, a prior public consultation was held, and between May and June 2026, a period was opened to submit contributions through the Participa Gencat portal. During that phase, the Castelldefels City Council already expressed its support for the creation of the third ABS, although it requested improvements in the provision of professionals and resources.
Now, the council has announced that it will again submit objections to reiterate the considerations already made in previous stages. Among the municipal priorities are ensuring a greater provision of healthcare professionals and resources, an accessible and nearby paediatric model, adequate mobility for the affected population, effective respect for the free choice of centre, and a territorial delimitation consistent with the reality of the neighbourhoods and streets of Castelldefels.
The City Council will also request the review and correction of various inconsistencies detected in the technical documentation accompanying the project. The council believes that the creation of ABS-3 and the establishment of CAP La Muntanyeta are an opportunity to improve healthcare, but they insist that the reorganisation must translate into a real improvement in care.
The Department of Health, for its part, has already published a feedback report analysing and assessing the different contributions received, including those from the City Council. However, the new procedure allows citizens, entities, and interested groups to consult the documentation and make new observations, suggestions, or objections.
Objections can be submitted electronically through the Generic Request for Procedures Gencat, addressed to the Department of Health. In the section for the reason or subject, it should be indicated: “Objections to the Order Project modifying the delimitation of various basic health areas.” They can also be submitted in person at the headquarters of the Department of Health or through any other registry provided by the administrative procedure regulations.
For the residents of Castelldefels, the creation of the third ABS and the new CAP in La Muntanyeta will mean a decongestion of the current centres and closer care, especially for residents in the northern part of the city. The deadline to participate in this procedure ends on 5 August 2026, so interested parties have just over two weeks to submit their objections.
