The Metropolitan Area of Barcelona has launched the night line N21, which connects Gavà Mar with Viladecans and Sant Climent de Llobregat, and has improved the frequency of the N14 and N16 lines, with a 15-minute interval during peak demand.
The Nitbus continues to expand across Baix Llobregat. Since the night of July 17, the new N21 has been serving Gavà Mar for the first time, connecting this coastal area with the centre of Gavà, Viladecans, and Sant Climent de Llobregat, which also launches night service. The line will operate on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, as well as on the eve of holidays, with a frequency of 90 minutes.
The N21 route starts at the Plaza de la Vila in Sant Climent and, after passing through Viladecans, follows a very similar itinerary to the daytime line L88, incorporating the Avenida de Europa de Gavà Mar. Users will be able to connect in Gavà with the N14, N16, and N19 lines, facilitating night travel to Barcelona, Castelldefels, Sant Boi de Llobregat, El Prat de Llobregat, the airport, and other metropolitan municipalities.
Increased frequency on the N14 and N16 lines
The AMB has also reinforced two of the most in-demand night routes. The N14, which connects Castelldefels, Gavà, and Viladecans with Barcelona via Cornellà and Esplugues, reduces its frequency from 20 to 15 minutes every day of the year. This represents a 25% increase in service capacity during the busiest sections.
In the case of the N16, which links Castelldefels, Gavà, and Viladecans with L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and Barcelona, the service starts earlier at night to reduce waiting times compared to the last daytime trips. Additionally, it also improves its frequency from 20 to 15 minutes throughout the summer period (from May to September) and on Saturdays and the eve of holidays between October and April. On other days between October and April, it will maintain a frequency of 20 minutes.
A growing night network
With the addition of the N21, the Nitbus network reaches 24 lines, providing service every night between 22:30 and 6:00 with a fleet of 189 buses, reaching 18 municipalities in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. In 2025, it recorded 10.7 million validations, a 6% increase from the previous year and a 24% increase compared to 2023, when 8.61 million trips were counted.
The Nitbus maintains the demand-responsive stop service, designed to enhance the safety of women and minors during night travel, while the entire fleet is equipped with video surveillance cameras and the new bus shelters include night lighting. For the residents of Gavà Mar, the N21 represents a qualitative leap: they can finally return home without relying on a car or taxi on weekend nights.
