Since 17 July, Viladecans has joined Sant Climent and Gavà with the new Nitbus N21 line, operating Thursday to Saturday and on the eve of public holidays with a 90-minute frequency.
Viladecans expands its night public transport network with the launch of the N21 line, which connects Sant Climent de Llobregat and the coastal front of Gavà with its urban centre for the first time. This initiative, driven by the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB), began operating on the night of Friday 17 July, thus providing a safe and efficient alternative for residents of the Baix Llobregat.
The new route operates during the nights from Thursday to Saturday and on the eve of public holidays, with a fixed frequency of 90 minutes throughout the year. Its route starts at the plaza de la Vila de Sant Climent, passes through the plaza de Europa in Viladecans, and follows a similar path to the daytime line L88, finishing at the avenida de Europa in Gavà Mar.
Integration and new night connections in Viladecans
With the launch of the N21, these areas are for the first time integrated into the night transport network of the metropolitan area. This facilitates access for users in Viladecans to other key lines such as N14, N16 and N19, which connect to Barcelona, the airport, and Sant Boi de Llobregat, expanding options for night travel.
The mayor of Sant Climent de Llobregat, Jordi Pérez Condeminas, has described this launch as a "much-anticipated news and a historical demand" for his municipality. Meanwhile, the mayor of Gavà, Gemma Badia, has highlighted that the connection with Gavà Mar represents a "safe and useful alternative to private vehicles", improving mobility and night safety.
Joan Maria Bigas, director of the Mobility area of the AMB, has emphasized that this improvement reflects the entity's commitment to providing efficient public transport at night, responding to the growing needs of citizens.
Improvements in frequencies and safety in night transport
In addition to the creation of the N21, the AMB has strengthened the frequency of other heavily used lines. The N14 increases its frequency from every 20 to 15 minutes throughout the year, while the N16 improves its frequency to 15 minutes in summer and on the eve of public holidays, bringing its start time forward to avoid dead time between daytime and night services.
The Nitbus service reached a historic record in 2025 with 10.7 million trips, reflecting a 24% increase since 2023. Currently, the network has 24 lines and 189 vehicles to cover 18 municipalities.
In terms of safety, the AMB maintains the demand stop service for vulnerable groups, such as women and minors, allowing them to alight close to their destination. The entire fleet is equipped with surveillance cameras and the new bus shelters feature night lighting to ensure users' peace of mind during the night.
This improvement in the night network has a direct impact on the quality of life of residents in Viladecans and nearby municipalities, facilitating safer and more sustainable travel. Users can check schedules and stops on the official AMB platforms to plan their journeys.
