The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts a widespread drop in temperatures this Friday in the province of Barcelona, with maximums still reaching 35 degrees on the coast. Clear skies are expected, although storms may form in the interior in the afternoon.

After several days of intense heat, maximum temperatures will experience a widespread drop across the region, although the thermometer will still show high values on the coast and pre-coast.
According to Aemet, Thursday was a hot day, with maximums exceeding 35 degrees in many parts of the province. For Friday, the mercury will drop significantly, especially in the interior and mountainous areas, where maximums will range between 30 and 33 degrees. In the city of Barcelona and along the coast, temperatures will hover around 33-35 degrees, still above the usual for this time of year.
The sky will be mostly clear or sunny in the morning, with some intervals of high clouds. However, from midday and especially in the afternoon, daytime cloud development is expected, which could lead to locally strong showers and storms in the interior of the province, particularly in the regions of Vallès Occidental, Vallès Oriental, and Bages. These storms may be accompanied by hail and very strong gusts of wind, according to Aemet.
Minimum temperatures, on the other hand, will rise slightly on the coast and pre-coast, leading to tropical nights, with values not dropping below 20 degrees on the coast and in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. In the interior, minimums will decrease, resulting in cooler mornings, especially in mountainous areas.
The wind will blow from the west, light in the morning, and will intensify to moderate in the afternoon, with strong intervals along the coast. In the metropolitan area of Barcelona, gusts could reach 40 km/h during storms.
Aemet has also noted that there is a probability of suspended dust (calima) in the southeastern peninsula, although in the province of Barcelona, the incidence will be low, with slightly hazy skies during the central hours.
For Saturday and Sunday, the trend is towards stabilisation of the weather, with temperatures continuing to decrease moderately, approaching normal values for late July. The probability of storms will decrease, although isolated showers in the interior during Saturday afternoon cannot be ruled out.
In light of this forecast, Civil Protection recommends caution on the roads during storms, especially in the interior regions, where the appearance of hail can reduce visibility and make driving dangerous. They also advise avoiding outdoor activities in exposed areas during the hours of greatest instability, between 2 PM and 8 PM.
In the city of Barcelona, the City Council has activated the heat protocol for homeless individuals and recommends that the public stay hydrated and avoid sun exposure during the central hours of the day. The city's beaches will be very crowded, but it is advised to pay attention to flags and lifeguard warnings.
For the coming days, Aemet forecasts that temperatures will remain at summer values, with no new episodes of extreme heat in sight. The arrival of a DANA in the northwestern peninsula, which will affect Galicia and Asturias, will not have a direct impact on Catalonia, but will favour instability in the eastern peninsula.
