The Pins Vens Multi-Purpose Camp in Sitges is preparing to host the 41st Night of Sport this Friday, July 24, a gala that will present 91 awards to the most outstanding athletes and teams from the 2025-2026 season. The event, organised by the Sports Department of the Sitges Town Hall, will start at 20:00 and will be attended by the mayor Aurora Carbonell, councillor Daniel Martínez, and representatives from the Generalitat and the Diputació de Barcelona.
Acknowledgements for local sporting excellence
The event will award both individual and collective achievements. Among the recipients are athletes from local Sitges clubs and other towns who have achieved significant successes. Distinctions will also be awarded to teams from local sports entities that have excelled during the season.
The Sports Councillor, Daniel Martínez Berdala, highlighted that “the Night of Sport is one of the most special moments of the year for Sitges sports. We celebrate the excellence of nearly a hundred athletes who deserve the town's recognition.” He also emphasised that the evening serves to honour essential personalities for understanding the importance of sport in Sitges.
Special tributes and posthumous recognitions
The gala reserves a space for tributes. A tribute will be paid to Rafael Alcázar Alquézar, former president of the Sitges Basketball Sports Club, and the careers of three figures linked to local sport will be recognised: Félix Cusiné, Lolita Rubio, and Josep Vilalta, the latter having recently passed away. Family members are expected to be present to receive the recognition on behalf of the honourees.
Additionally, special mentions will be awarded to athletes who are part of the Catalan Selection and the Spanish Rugby Selection, a gesture that the organisation repeats every year to highlight the local pride of having representation in national teams.
