The violinist presented his new show 'Intruso' in Sitges, as part of a tour that has already surpassed 400,000 tickets sold. In front of 1,600 spectators, he offered a recital that fused classical, jazz, tango, and flamenco.
The violinist Ara Malikian once again demonstrated why he is one of the most charismatic artists on the international scene. He did so this Friday at the Terramar CaixaBank Festival in Sitges, where he presented 'Intruso', his new show, as part of 'The Ara Malikian World Tour'.
The tour has already accumulated over 400,000 tickets sold and 260 concerts in more than six countries, with over 200 performances sold out. In Sitges, 1,600 spectators filled the venue to enjoy a night of virtuosity and creative freedom.
Malikian was accompanied by a solid lineup, led by Iván 'Melón' Lewis on piano, Iván Ruiz Machado on bass, Georvis Pico Milán on drums, and Dayan Abad on guitar. Together, they created a sound that naturally traversed classical music, jazz, tango, flamenco, and other cultural sounds.
The concert began with 'Renacer', an overture of strong symbolic weight that immersed the audience in the atmosphere of the proposal. This was followed by 'Krikor Aklot' and 'Niño Rata', before 'Concerto Grosso' and 'Concerto Grosso N2 Intruso' showcased the more expansive dimension of the show.
One of the most intense moments came with 'Fuga y misterio', by Astor Piazzolla, where tango became a living and contemporary matter. Afterwards, 'Zyryab', by Paco de Lucía, opened a pathway to flamenco, approached with respect and freedom. The program was completed with 'Pisando flores' and 'Nana arrugada', alternating rhythmic strength, lyricism, and improvisation.
Between pieces, Malikian shared personal memories, humour, and irony, provoking laughter and reinforcing the bond with the audience. The artist, born in Beirut and of Armenian descent, explained how his childhood marked by the Lebanese civil war influenced his relationship with music, feeling for years neither sufficiently Lebanese, nor Armenian, nor European.
The evening also included a performance by the collective Casa Noctua, young artists from Sant Pere de Ribes who are part of the Imprescindibles cycle, promoted by the Culture Department of the Sitges Town Hall. This Saturday, the festival will host a concert by Rosana, who presents her 'Vamos a Star Tour' coinciding with the 30th anniversary of 'Lunas Rotas'.
