The Taiwanese company TCI, specialised in dietary supplements and cosmetics, has invested 20 million euros in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat to open its first production plant and R&D laboratory in Europe, which will create 15 skilled jobs and start operations in May 2027.
The Taiwanese company TCI, dedicated to the development and manufacturing of dietary supplements and skincare products, has chosen L'Hospitalet de Llobregat to establish its first production and research centre in Europe. The investment amounts to 20 million euros and is expected to create 15 skilled jobs in an initial phase, as reported by the Departament d'Empresa i Treball.
The operation includes the acquisition of a 4,250 square metre facility, where new production lines will be installed and spaces will be adapted to house manufacturing areas, three laboratories, offices, and a client exhibition area. The aim is for the plant to begin its activities in May 2027, with plans to gradually expand the workforce as production capacity increases.
In the initial stage, the facilities will focus on the manufacturing of dietary supplements, specifically single-dose liquid sachets and functional gels, two formats whose demand is growing in the European market, according to the Generalitat. Later on, the centre will also serve as an R&D platform to develop formulations and products tailored to European consumers and community regulations.
With this investment, TCI completes a global manufacturing network that already includes centres in Taiwan, China, India, the United States, and now, Catalonia. The company, headquartered in Taipei, generated nearly 220 million dollars in 2025 and serves around 1,000 brands in 68 countries. It has a portfolio of over 2,600 patents and registered trademarks, and employs 1,000 workers worldwide.
TCI's president, Vincent Lin, highlighted that “Barcelona represents a long-term commitment to Europe for us: local production, local talent, and the same standards of research, development, and quality that our clients know from our facilities in Asia and the United States.” Meanwhile, TCI's general director in Europe, Yin Liu, noted that “producing in Europe means being close to consumers and the market, and responding more quickly and accurately to changing trends and consumer needs.”
The choice of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, according to the company, is due to the combination of local talent, logistical capacity, and connection to European markets. The company expects the centre to serve as a base to expand its presence on the continent and develop products tailored to European consumer preferences.
The Generalitat has positively assessed the investment, which reinforces Catalonia's positioning as a hub for attracting international companies in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sector. The new plant adds to other recent investments by Asian companies in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, seeking proximity to the European market.
TCI expects the L'Hospitalet plant to generate synergies with its centres in Asia and the United States, allowing for coordinated global production. The company is confident that demand for dietary supplements and skincare products will continue to grow in Europe, driven by the trend towards health and wellness.
The launch of the plant will boost the industrial fabric of L'Hospitalet, which will see increased activity in the biotechnology and advanced manufacturing sector. The initial 15 jobs are expected to expand in the coming years, depending on the growth rate of production.
