French fly-half Arthur Picole, MVP of the División de Honor Élite, leaves Sant Cugat to join VRAC Quesos Entrepinares in Valladolid.

Catalan rugby loses one of its brightest figures. Arthur Picole, considered the best player of last season in the División de Honor Élite according to Rugby Catalunya, is heading to VRAC Quesos Entrepinares in Valladolid, where he will compete next season. The French player, trained in the USAP Perpignan academy, wore the Sant Cugat jersey for the past few seasons, leaving an indelible mark on the club in the Vallès region.

Picole, 26, stood out for his versatility in the backline, tactical intelligence, and accuracy in set pieces. His ability to play both as a fly-half and centre made him a cornerstone of Sant Cugat's attack, with which he managed to qualify for the championship finals. His departure is a heavy blow for the team from the province of Barcelona, which will need to rebuild its offensive line for the 2026/2027 season.

VRAC, celebrating its 40th anniversary, has made a strong investment in the Frenchman to bolster its project. Alongside Picole, the Valladolid club has also announced the arrival of 22-year-old second-row Jaime Borondo from Ciencias Sevilla, where he served as captain. Borondo, a Spanish international at youth levels, adds experience and leadership to the forward pack.

Additionally, VRAC is welcoming back a familiar face: Samoan international East Timor Faamatuianu, who returns after a season with the English Doncaster Knights. Faamatuianu was key in winning the Iberian Cup, Supercup, and King's Cup in the 2024/25 season, and his return excites the cheese fans.

For Sant Cugat, Picole's departure represents a challenge. The club will need to find a reliable replacement in an increasingly competitive market. The management is already working on assembling the squad for next season, aiming to maintain the competitive level that has characterised the team in recent years.

The impact of this loss will also be felt by the Sant Cugat fans, who see one of their idols moving to a club with a larger budget and national aspirations. Next season, the Catalan team will have to reinvent itself without its star, while Picole will seek to shine in Valladolid and add titles to his collection.
