The resident of Manresa, Isabel García Nieto, has turned 100 and received a visit from the acting mayor, Anjo Valentí Moll, who presented her with a bouquet of flowers and a gift on behalf of the council.
The Manresa City Council wanted to recognise one of its oldest residents. Isabel García Nieto, born on August 4, 1926, received a visit from the acting mayor, Anjo Valentí Moll, on Tuesday, who presented her with a bouquet of flowers and a commemorative gift on behalf of the council.
The meeting took place at Isabel's home on Guifré el Pelós street, where she was accompanied by her family. Moll wanted to personally congratulate her on her centenary and share a few moments with her on such a significant day.
Isabel's life has been marked by the history of the 20th century. She was born in Fiñana (Almería) and moved with her family to Sitges when she was just one year old, where her three siblings were born. During the Civil War, she ended up in the concentration camp of Argelers, in Roussillon. After the war, she arrived in Manresa, where she married Francisco and had two children: Mario, who has since passed away, and Anna.
Currently, her family includes her daughter Anna, her grandson Marc, her son-in-law Nico, her sister Raquel, who lives in Nîmes (France), and four nephews. Isabel worked as a weaver at the Gatuellas and Morros company in Manresa, and among her hobbies are sewing, walking, and watching soap operas. At 100 years old, she still dedicates two days a week to doing gymnastics at the Ateneu les Bases, a testament to her vitality.
The gesture from the council is part of the tradition of honouring residents who reach centenarian ages, a recognition that values the history and memory of the city. The visit from the acting mayor aimed to underline the affection and respect of Manresa towards its elders.
