The municipality is renewing its textile collection service with new orange containers and will increase from 45 to 67 recycling points in August. The aim: to facilitate reuse and reduce waste ending up in landfills.
Castelldefels has completed the first phase of renewing its clothing, footwear, and domestic textile collection containers. During the second half of July, the old units were removed and more modern and functional ones were installed, with an aesthetic similar to the other selective collection containers in the city.
The new containers maintain the characteristic orange colour of this fraction, making them easily identifiable in public spaces. This action is part of the municipal plan to improve waste separation and promote the circular economy.
The second phase of the project will arrive in August with the addition of 22 new locations spread across different neighbourhoods. With this expansion, Castelldefels will increase from the current 45 collection points to a total of 67, representing a 55% increase in the textile collection network.
The City Council reminds that used clothing and footwear should be placed in these specific containers and not in the grey residual waste container. Proper separation allows for the recovery of valuable materials and minimises environmental impact.
The collected textiles are primarily destined for reuse, extending their useful life whenever their condition allows. When reuse is not possible, they are sent for recycling processes to recover fibres and manufacture new products.
“With the renewal and expansion of the service, Castelldefels reinforces its commitment to sustainability and the promotion of more responsible consumption habits,” municipal sources state.
Residents will be able to locate the new collection points throughout the next month, when the second phase of the project becomes operational.
