The Barcelona Metropolitan Area has awarded Eurocatalana Obres i Serveis SLU the construction of the Ca n'Aimeric metropolitan park for €3.36 million. The works will begin in October and last for seven months.

The transformation of the old quarry of Ca n'Aimeric in Castelldefels is nearing its final stages. The Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) has awarded the construction works of the future metropolitan park to the company Eurocatalana Obres i Serveis SLU for an amount of €3,360,805.03, including VAT. The work, which will have an execution period of seven months, is expected to start next month in October.

With this award, the project takes a decisive step after the definitive approval of the plan last March, which allowed the bidding for the works to open. The new Ca n'Aimeric metropolitan park will mean the recovery for citizen use of a degraded space that for decades functioned as a quarry and, later, as a truck parking area.

The future park is conceived as a large green space that will combine nature, sports, and leisure. The project includes extensive landscaped areas, children's play areas, an outdoor amphitheatre, a dog park, walking and physical activity paths, as well as sports courts. The unique topography of the old quarry will be utilised to incorporate elements such as a pump track circuit for bicycles and scooters, large slides integrated into the slope, and several viewpoints over the surroundings. A night closure system will also be installed to ensure the safety and maintenance of the site.

If the planned deadlines are met, the new park could be completed by spring 2027. The creation of the metropolitan park responds to one of the commitments of the municipal government to continue expanding and improving public spaces in Castelldefels. This action will allow the recovery of a degraded area and transform it into a new reference green space for leisure, sports, and community gatherings, reinforcing the city's network of parks and contributing to improving the quality of life for citizens and the sustainability of the municipality.

The project has been promoted by the AMB in collaboration with the Castelldefels City Council and represents a significant investment in improving the urban and natural environment of the city. Local residents will see how a space that has been unused for years becomes a meeting and recreation place. The awarded company, Eurocatalana Obres i Serveis SLU, has experience in urbanisation works and public spaces in the metropolitan area.

The works will begin in October and will last for seven months, so the park is expected to be ready by spring 2027. The Castelldefels City Council has positively valued the award and is confident that the project will be executed as planned, without setbacks. The new park will join the city's green space offerings, which include other parks such as Llac and Muntanyeta.
