The Agrupación de Cultura Popular de Castelldefels organises a weekend of traditions with castells, gegants, sardanes and the legend of Gar-i-Got. Activities start on Friday, 7th August.
The countdown to the Festa Major of Castelldefels begins this weekend with a programme dedicated to popular culture. The Agrupació de Cultura Popular de Castelldefels (ACPC) has prepared a wide range of activities open to all audiences, combining tradition, music, heritage and citizen participation.
The proposals will begin on Friday, 7th August with a special open rehearsal of the Castellers de Castelldefels, at 21:00 at the ACPC headquarters, located at Avenida Lluís Companys, 16. This event will allow attendees to get to know the casteller world up close and enjoy a festive atmosphere, with music and a bar at affordable prices.
On Saturday, 8th August, the day will start early with the I Cursa d'Orientació Gar-i-Got, at 07:30, with the start and finish at the ACPC premises. Organised by the Castellers de Castelldefels, the event invites participants to discover the natural surroundings of the city in an activity suitable for both experts and families.
In the evening, at 22:00, the Gar-i-Got square, in the Muntanyeta park, will host the theatrical pyromusical show of the Legend of Gar-i-Got. The performance, organised by the ACPC, will combine theatre, fire and music to recreate one of the most unique tales from the local popular imagination.
Sunday of traditions and heritage
Sunday, 9th August will be an intense day. Between 11:00 and 18:00, the Agrupació's premises will host the Popular Vermut of Festa Major with music, a gathering space to learn about the entity's activities throughout the year.
At 11:30, the Diada Castellera de la Vigilia will take place in front of the Edificio de la República, on Arcadi Balaguer street, featuring a display by the Castellers de Castelldefels. In the afternoon, at 18:00, the family activity “To the Watchtowers, the Pirates are Coming!” will tour several watchtowers in the city, starting in front of the Castle gate.
The weekend will conclude with the traditional ball de sardanes, at 19:30 in the Church square, with music from the Cobla Baix Llobregat.
With this programme, Castelldefels reinforces the role of popular culture as an element of cohesion and collective identity, with activities for all ages that will fill the city's streets with life before the official start of the main festival.
