The covering works on La Ronda de Dalt in Barcelona enter a new phase with the reduction of a lane in each direction between exits 5 and 6, from August 3 to 24, to advance the installations of the future tunnel.
The section of La Ronda de Dalt between exits 5 and 6 in Barcelona will have, starting next Monday, August 3, and until the 24th, two lanes in each direction, as the slow lane will be cut off in each direction. This measure responds to the covering works of the road between IES Vall d'Hebron and Avenida Vallcarca, now focused on the installations of the future tunnel, which will be partially covered this summer.
The works coincide with the final stretch of the placement of the ceiling slabs: this coming week, 56 of the 101 pieces that will form the new ceiling of the roundabout will be completed. From then on, the actions will focus on wiring, safety, ventilation, and lighting of the tunnel.
The night closures that have been taking place from Sunday to Thursday since July 20 will end on August 6. During four days (August 3, 4, 5, and 6), these closures will coincide with the occupation of the slow lane in both directions, which could generate delays during off-peak hours.
The lane reduction over three weeks aims to minimise future night closures and optimise resources, as many of the tasks for implementing and removing the work will be avoided. Once the slow lanes are reopened, installation works will continue in the following months. The forecast is that the total covering of the roundabout will be completed by the end of 2027, with the placement of the last pieces of the ceiling.
The works began in June 2024 with the construction of the central wall where the slabs now rest and the two emergency exits in each direction of the future tunnel. The covering of this section, 340 meters, will add to the 200 already covered between the Mercado de la Vall d'Hebron and the institute, generating a new green space for public use, especially for the residents of Sant Genís dels Agudells and La Teixonera.
The Barcelona City Council frames this intervention within the great city pact with community entities and political groups to transform this road infrastructure, responding to a long-standing citizen demand. The planned investment for the structural works amounts to about 12 million euros, plus another 20 million for the covering, installations, and finishes of the tunnel. The urbanisation works of the new space are being defined in a separate project.
Drivers who regularly travel this section of La Ronda de Dalt should anticipate longer travel times over the next three weeks, especially during peak hours. It is recommended to seek alternative routes or use public transport to avoid delays.
