The ninth edition of the Terramar CaixaBank Festival has begun in Sitges with a concert by Sílvia Pérez Cruz, which brought together local authorities on a day that also launched the Imprescindibles cycle.
The Terramar CaixaBank Festival opened its doors this Saturday in Sitges with a performance by Sílvia Pérez Cruz, featuring the presence of the mayor, Aurora Carbonell, and the Culture Councillor, Albert Oliver-Rodés. The event, now in its ninth edition, has turned the municipality into the musical epicentre of Garraf for the coming weeks.
The inauguration held special significance for the singer, as this concert was her last in Spain before travelling to America, where she will continue presenting songs from her new work. The repertoire combined recent pieces with classics from her career, in a performance lasting over two hours with around twenty songs.
The concert began with the artist solo, performing “Hierbabuena” and “Poema la sed”, in an intimate opening where voice and word took centre stage. The addition of the band with “En un rincón” expanded the sound space, leading into a first block with “Pastores”, “Moreno” and “Ben poca cosa tens”.
The staging included several costume changes and visual transformations, such as the dropping of the kabuki and the entrance of the choir during the central block. Songs like “Mar de na Catalina”, “Chacarera”, “Mar muerto” and “Abissal” increased the intensity, culminating in “To se quema” and the final stretch with “El golpe bajo”, “Capitana” or “Gallo rojo”.
The ensemble accompanying Sílvia Pérez Cruz consisted of around ten musicians, including Bori Albero on double bass, Marta Roma on cello and Lucía Fumero on piano, along with a choir of six voices. The combination of strings, winds, percussion and piano created a soundscape that transitioned from initial restraint to collective strength.
The inaugural day also served to launch the Imprescindibles cycle, promoted by the Culture Department of the Sitges Town Hall. Dancers Roger Bernad Paretas and Martina De Michelis Pallisea inaugurated this initiative with the piece Intra-accions, completed with a musical session by the DJs of Ràdio Sitges.
The festival will continue tonight with a concert by Sergio Dalma, who will present “Ritorno a Via Dalma” live, as part of a tour of large venues revisiting his universe of Italian hits. In the Imprescindibles cycle, it will be the turn of the youth cast from the Esplai de Dansa Casino Prado, who will offer a neoclassical and contemporary dance performance.
With this programming, Sitges reinforces its commitment to culture as a tourist and social driver, in a summer where the festival has established itself as one of the unmissable events on the Catalan cultural calendar. The Terramar CaixaBank Festival, which will last several weeks, promises a varied programme that combines big names from the national and international scene with more emerging proposals, such as those featured in the Imprescindibles cycle. Saturday's event left a good taste in the mouths of attendees, who were able to enjoy a night of music in the privileged setting of Sitges.
