More than a hundred Catalan municipalities, including L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, will install giant screens for fans to follow the World Cup final. The capital of Barcelonés joins the celebration with a meeting point in the Town Hall square.
Next Sunday, the Town Hall square of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat will transform into an improvised open-air stadium. The city council has confirmed the installation of a giant screen so that residents can watch the World Cup final live. This initiative, replicated in over a hundred Catalan towns, will allow fans to experience the match in a festive and communal atmosphere.
An unprecedented deployment in the province of Barcelona
The province of Barcelona has the highest number of municipalities participating in this initiative. According to data provided by the Generalitat, more than 60 towns have confirmed the setup of public spaces for watching the match. These include large cities like Badalona, Terrassa, or Sabadell, as well as smaller municipalities like Campins or Castellgalí.
In L'Hospitalet, the screen will be located in the central Town Hall square, a space that has hosted large events during previous sporting occasions. The mayor, David Quirós, has encouraged citizens to participate:
We want the people of L'Hospitalet to enjoy this historic moment in a safe environment with all guarantees. It will be a football festival.
Timings, access and security measures
The screen will start broadcasting half an hour before the match starts, scheduled for 21:00. The Town Hall recommends arriving early to secure a spot, as a massive turnout is expected. Access will be free, and food and drink stalls will be set up in the vicinity.
To ensure safety, the Local Police has established a special operation that includes traffic closures on adjacent streets starting from 19:00. A first aid station staffed by the Red Cross has also been set up. Organisers remind attendees that bringing alcoholic beverages is prohibited and that current health recommendations will be followed.
In case of rain, the event will move to the Municipal Sports Pavilion, located on Avenida de la Primavera, where an emergency screen has also been arranged. The Town Hall will inform through its social media and the municipal app of any last-minute changes.
The World Cup, an event that unites all of Catalunya
The World Cup final will not only be experienced in L'Hospitalet. Across Catalunya, more than 100 municipalities have organised collective viewing points. In the province of Tarragona, cities like Reus, Salou and Tarragona capital stand out; in Lleida, the capital and La Seu d'Urgell; and in Girona, various towns on the Costa Brava and inland.
For fans who prefer to enjoy the experience from home, all television channels will broadcast the match live. However, the giant screen option has become a classic for major football events, and L'Hospitalet could not miss out. As noted by the Sports Councillor, Cristian Alcázar:
