Civil Protection has activated the alert for the INUNCAT plan due to the forecast of torrential rain starting at noon. The most affected areas will be Ripollès, Garrotxa, and Osona.
Civil Protection of the Generalitat activated the alert phase of the special emergency plan for flooding (INUNCAT) on Monday afternoon after the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC) updated its forecast. The warning indicates that from noon on Tuesday, heavy showers may occur, especially in northeastern Catalonia.
According to the SMC, the areas most likely to exceed 20 litres per square metre in 30 minutes are Ripollès, Garrotxa, and Osona. Storms may also be accompanied by hail locally.
Precipitation could also affect the pre-coastal areas of Barcelona and Tarragona, Central Catalonia, and the southernmost regions, although with less intensity.
Civil Protection urges caution during travel and outdoor activities.
The agency recommends staying informed about the evolution of the rain through the SMC and checking traffic conditions on the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) website. They also remind people of self-protection measures such as clearing drains and downspouts, keeping away from rivers and streams, and not crossing flooded areas or attempting to wade through watercourses.
If water enters the lower floors, they advise moving to upper floors and calling 112 if help is needed. Avoiding vehicle use is another warning, as cars can float in shallow water and be easily swept away.
The activation comes after the SMC updated its forecasts for Tuesday, indicating an afternoon of instability across much of the territory.
