Civil Protection activates the INUNCAT alert for strong storms this afternoon and evening. Showers of over 40 l/m2 in 30 minutes and hail are expected in several regions.
Civil Protection of the Generalitat has activated the emergency flood plan for Catalonia (INUNCAT) in alert phase due to the forecast of strong storms for the afternoon and evening of this Thursday, August 6. The warning affects a large part of the territory, including the province of Barcelona, where intense showers are expected.
According to the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC), the danger threshold for rainfall intensity may be exceeded, with more than 40 litres per square metre in 30 minutes, and also for accumulation, with over 60 litres in three hours. The most affected regions will be Central Catalonia, the Pyrenees and eastern Pre-Pyrenees, the interior of the Camp de Tarragona, and the Central Pre-Coastal area.
The showers will be accompanied by storms and, locally, violent weather phenomena, with very strong gusts of wind and hail. The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) and the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (CHE) have announced that they will intensify monitoring due to the possible rise of rivers and streams, and their impact on flood-prone areas.
Civil Protection urges extreme caution, especially regarding mobility and outdoor activities. It is recommended to avoid parking in streams or flood-prone areas and never cross rivers, streams, or flooded areas, either on foot or by vehicle. It also advises reducing mobility in case of heavy rainfall and staying away from riverbeds, ravines, and flood-prone underground passages.
