The Town Hall of Barberà del Vallès has called for a minute of silence at 12 PM in the plaza de la Vila to condemn the femicide of a 34-year-old woman from Barcelona.
The Town Hall of Barberà del Vallès has joined the call from the Department of Equality and Feminisms of the Generalitat de Catalunya and has organised a minute of silence this noon, at 12 PM, in the plaza de la Vila. The event aims to show rejection of the femicide of a 34-year-old woman from Barcelona and to convey support to her family and loved ones.
The gathering, open to all citizens, also aims to reaffirm the council's commitment to eradicating male violence. During the event, the acting mayor and deputy mayor for Feminisms and City Projects, Mònica Sempere Creus, spoke with words of condemnation.
"Today, condemning is not enough. Every femicide challenges us as a society. It forces us to ask ourselves what we have failed to see, what we have failed to protect, and what we continue to tolerate. From Barberà, we condemn this violence unequivocally. We will not take a step back until equality is no longer a horizon but a reality," declared Sempere.
The council reminds that women suffering from male violence can seek help through the phone number 900 900 120 of the Catalan Women's Institute, which is available 24 hours a day, free of charge and confidentially, and does not appear on phone bills.

This femicide adds to the worrying statistics of male violence in Catalunya. According to data from the Generalitat, several women have already been murdered by their partners or ex-partners this year. The Town Hall of Barberà del Vallès has expressed its solidarity with the victim and her surroundings, and has called for the involvement of the entire society to detect and prevent these assaults.
Today's event was attended by local residents and municipal representatives, who observed a respectful silence as a sign of mourning and rejection. The council insists on the need not to normalise any form of violence and to utilise the available support resources.
