The mayor of Abrera, Jesús Naharro, and the councillor Giulia Mirto have met with senior officials from the Department of Social Rights and Inclusion to coordinate social policies focused on the elderly and people with diverse abilities.
The mayor of Abrera, Jesús Naharro, and the social action councillor, Giulia Mirto, held a working meeting at the Department of Social Rights and Inclusion of the Generalitat of Catalonia with the newly appointed councillor Raúl Moreno and the secretary general Xema Gil, as well as with the director general of Personal Autonomy and Disability, Sílvia Subirana.
Also participating in the meeting were the municipal manager, Cristina Martínez; the coordinator of the Area of Services to People and Wellbeing, Sílvia Ros; and the coordinator of the Area of Territory and Sustainability, Meritxell Casajús. During the meeting, the needs, challenges, and proposals of the municipality regarding social policies were presented.
The Abrera council placed special emphasis on actions aimed at the elderly and the group of people with diverse abilities, with the goal of planning actions adapted to the local reality. According to municipal sources, projects related to the autonomy and emancipation of people with disabilities throughout their life cycle are being studied.
In the area of the elderly, the City Council and the Generalitat are analysing possible collaborations to implement modern residential and housing models that provide accommodation alternatives adapted to the current needs of this group.
The meeting served to establish synergies between both administrations with the aim of promoting new initiatives and reinforcing existing social projects. The Abrera City Council highlighted the willingness to work in a coordinated, planned, and realistic manner to respond to the historical demands of the municipality.
Councillor Giulia Mirto positively assessed the meeting: “Let us congratulate councillor Raúl Moreno and secretary general Xema Gil on their recent appointment. This will allow us to continue working in a coordinated and realistic manner on the needs that Abrera has presented for years. Abrera is ready to host new and innovative projects in the field of inclusion and the elderly.”
Mirto added that “we are aware that it is an important challenge that requires planning and concreteness, but precisely for that reason we are very pleased that this space for joint work has been created.”
The Abrera City Council is already developing several reference programs in the social field. Among them, the intergenerational projects Lligams stand out, which promote relationships between different generations; the Elderly Week, a space for recognition and participation; the Active Ageing Programme, which promotes healthy habits; and the Group of Diverse Abilities, which promotes inclusion and equal opportunities.
With this meeting, both administrations reaffirm their shared commitment to advancing social policies that are close, inclusive, and adapted to the real needs of the citizens of Abrera. The council will continue to inform about the progress of these initiatives.
