The incident, which has affected the section between Montcada i Reixac station and Barcelona-Sant Andreu station, has necessitated the activation of an alternative transport plan to maintain user mobility.
Yesterday, the mayor of Montcada i Reixac, Bartolo Egea, and the president of the Territorial Area and Mobility, Andreu Iruela, accompanied by representatives from the Barcelona City Council, visited the collapse site to get firsthand knowledge of the progress of the works and to analyse the impact of the incident with the local residents.
Currently, technicians from the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif) are assessing the causes of the collapse and the stability of the soil to determine when railway service can be restored. Meanwhile, Renfe has implemented an emergency alternative transport plan to minimise inconvenience to users.
According to the established plan, the R2 line, heading North, starts its route from Montcada i Reixac station; heading South, it does so from Sant Andreu. Passengers from Montcada needing to connect with the R2 must use the R4 trains to Montcada i Reixac-Manresa station and walk to Montcada i Reixac station (R2).
For its part, the R11 line starts and ends its journey at Granollers Centre, meaning that users of this line must reach the capital of Vallès Oriental by connecting with the R2 from Montcada. The R2 South line operates between Estació de França and Castelldefels, stopping at all stations along its route.
The collapse has caused significant delays and overcrowding at the affected stations, especially at Montcada i Reixac and Sant Andreu. Residents of Vallbona, who had already requested safety measures during the works, are following the progress of the works with concern.
The mayor of Montcada i Reixac, Bartolo Egea, has urged Adif to restore the service promptly and has assured that all necessary checks will be made to prevent further incidents. Meanwhile, the president of the Territorial Area and Mobility, Andreu Iruela, has assured that users will be kept informed of any updates.
