From this allocation, Sabadell will receive 88,320 euros to undertake actions in its cultural facilities, as reported by the supramunicipal entity.
The call, framed within the 'Sectoral Programme for the Renovation and Improvement of Cultural Facilities', received 241 applications proposing interventions in 475 facilities. Ultimately, 223 applications (92.5% of those submitted) were estimated to be total or partially funded, benefiting 407 facilities with a total of 972 actions.
Prior Diagnosis and Identified Needs
The programme is based on a diagnosis prepared between 2024 and 2025 by the Provincial Council, which analysed the state of municipal cultural facilities. "The report highlighted the need to strengthen preventive maintenance and promote a comprehensive view of renovations," the administration stated at the time. These conclusions have served as a basis for defining the plan, with the aim of "addressing the identified needs and strengthening support for local administrations."
In Sabadell, the allocation of 88,320 euros will allow for improvements in several cultural spaces in the city, although the city council has yet to detail the specific list of actions. This amount places Sabadell among the most benefited large cities in the province, only behind Calella (103,860 euros), Olvan (102,560), Vallirana (102,100), and Olesa de Montserrat (101,680).
Comparison with Other Cities
Across the province, the grant has generated a demand of over 50 million euros, far exceeding the 15 million available. Terrassa, for example, will receive 87,760 euros to adapt its cultural facilities, while Santa Coloma de Gramenet will have 76,060 euros. In Cornellà de Llobregat, the aid amounts to 75,210 euros, allocated to the Auditori de Cornellà and a venue named 'Espai per conversar sense tecnologia'. L'Hospitalet de Llobregat will have 72,230 euros to renovate three unspecified cultural facilities in the grant.
Each municipality could submit a single application for a maximum of four facilities and up to five actions per space, with a maximum contribution of 400,000 euros per municipality. However, no city has come close to that figure. The facilities eligible for aid included municipal archives, public libraries, theatres, or museums, among others.
Timelines and Objectives of the Programme
The programme will be financed equally over the years 2026 and 2027, with an allocation of 7.5 million euros each year. It is part of the strategic lines of the mandate plan 'CULTURA 311+' and aims to strengthen the support of the Barcelona Provincial Council so that municipalities can "develop inclusive, accessible, and sustainable cultural policies."
For the residents of Sabadell, the investment represents an opportunity to update spaces that, in many cases, "require an update," according to the Provincial Council's diagnosis. The renovation of these facilities will not only improve the cultural offering but will also contribute to energising the social life of the neighbourhoods where they are located. The Sabadell City Council must now specify which projects will utilise the 88,320 euros, with the aim of completing the works before the end of 2027.
