The State Meteorological Agency announces the start of a heatwave this Tuesday in the Peninsula and Balearic Islands, with temperatures that could exceed 40 degrees in several areas. In the province of Barcelona, temperatures of up to 35 degrees and tropical nights are expected.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated an alert for the arrival of a heatwave that will begin this Tuesday and affect much of the Peninsula and Balearic Islands. In the province of Barcelona, maximum temperatures could reach 35 degrees in large areas, especially inland, with tropical nights keeping thermometers above 20 degrees.

According to Aemet's forecast, Tuesday will be a day of mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies, with intervals of medium and high clouds. On the Catalan coast, the wind will blow from the northeast, generally moderate, which could slightly alleviate the feeling of sultriness on the coast. However, inland areas of the province, such as Vallès Occidental and Vallès Oriental, will experience more intense heat.

Recommendations for residents of the province of Barcelona

In light of the forecast for high temperatures, the Department of Health of the Generalitat has reminded the importance of staying hydrated, avoiding sun exposure during the hottest hours of the day, and paying special attention to the most vulnerable groups, such as children and the elderly. In the province of Barcelona, municipalities such as Terrassa, Sabadell, and Manresa could record the highest temperatures.

Aemet also warns that minimum temperatures will not drop below 25 degrees in parts of the Mediterranean coast, making it difficult to rest at night. Tropical nights will extend over much of the eastern peninsula, including the province of Barcelona. Residents of the capital and the metropolitan area should prepare to sleep in the heat.

Storms and hail in the eastern Pyrenees

Not everything will be heat. Aemet forecasts possible storms with very strong gusts of wind, occasionally accompanied by hail, in the eastern Pyrenees, affecting the north of the province of Barcelona. These storms could be locally intense, so caution is advised for hikers and residents of areas such as Berguedà and Cerdanya.

In the rest of the province, daytime cloud development could bring some isolated showers, although this is unlikely. Dust from the south could also affect visibility during the morning, especially in the eastern part of the province.

The heatwave is expected to last for the coming days, according to forecasts. Aemet recommends following weather updates and adapting outdoor activities to avoid heatstroke. For this Tuesday, the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya has activated heat warnings in several regions of the province of Barcelona.
