The Esparreguera Town Hall has launched a summer campaign against the abandonment of bulky waste on public roads, with fines of up to 1,200 euros and signage in critical points.
The Esparreguera Town Hall has initiated this summer campaign to tackle a practice that degrades public space and harms coexistence: leaving furniture, appliances, and old junk on the street. The initiative combines the signage of the most problematic areas with an awareness campaign on social media.
The municipal ordinance on civility and coexistence already included fines of up to 1,200 euros for these cases, but now the council is reinforcing surveillance and information to prevent the problem. Workers are placing informative stickers on abandoned waste and vertical signs in places where this practice is most common.
The identified critical points are the transformer at Barri Font, the transformer on Carrer Camí de Can Comelles, Carrer Font Vidal, Carrer Sant Joan, and the container island on Carrer Pau Duran, in front of the pond of Can Cardús, in Mas d'en Gall. New signs have already been installed in all these locations.
A free service to prevent incivility
To facilitate proper management, the Town Hall reminds residents that there is a free scheduled collection service that can be requested by phone, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 3 pm, at 93 779 58 33. It allows for the collection of up to a maximum of five items per service, and waste can also be taken directly to the municipal waste disposal site.
The service typically assists around 100 households each week. During 2025, over 200 tonnes of bulky waste were managed between the disposal site and the scheduled collection, which is transported to the Gavà-Viladecans treatment plant.
There, recoverable materials such as wood, plastic, or metal are separated and recovered, promoting recycling and recovery. With this campaign, the council hopes to reduce abandonment on public roads and encourage civic attitudes among residents.
