Seven streets in Malgrat de Mar are competing to be the most decorated for the major festival of Sant Roc. The public voting will take place this weekend.
The municipality of Malgrat de Mar is already showcasing the decorations of the seven streets participating this year in the Engalana't contest, organised by the Festival Committee in celebration of the major festival of Sant Roc. Residents and visitors can stroll through them from today until August 31.
The participating streets are: Aragón, Libertad (between the passage of the Ánimas and San Pedro street), Mahón (between Cabo Fradera street and San Pedro), Nápoles, Pasada (Therapeutic Centre), Ramón Turró (between Blanch and Escuelas) and San Pedro (between Libertad and Mahón).
The public voting will be held on Saturday from 5 to 7 PM and on Sunday from 10 AM to 1 PM in the Church square. The name of the winning street will be announced on Sunday at ten o'clock in the evening.
The themes are varied, with some repeating: Aragón street is dedicated to flowers; Libertad to a butterfly forest; Mahón has turned into a Monopoly of Malgrat de Mar; Nápoles, titled 'Fly', is also filled with butterflies; Pasada is themed around the birds of the Tordera; Ramón Turró pays tribute to the former delivery people of the municipality, and San Pedro reflects the soulful trades of old Malgrat.
The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday at 9:30 PM in the Xesco Boix square, just before the traditional habaneras singing of the major festival.
The Engalana't contest aims to promote good neighbourliness and encourage residents to decorate the streets of the town for the celebration of the major festival of Sant Roc.
