The GEM opens the Sant Roc festival in Malgrat with the proclamation

The Grup Excursionista Malgratenc (GEM) will give the proclamation tonight at Parc Francesc Macià at 22:00, starting ten days of festivities with 56 events.

The Sant Roc festival kicks off tonight in Malgrat de Mar with the proclamation by the Grup Excursionista Malgratenc, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. There will be ten days with 56 events.

Malgrat de Mar lifts the curtain on its Sant Roc festival. The Grup Excursionista Malgratenc (GEM) will be responsible for delivering the proclamation tonight at 22:00 in Parc Francesc Macià, an event that marks the beginning of ten days of celebration that includes 56 scheduled events.

Before the proclamation, between 20:00 and 21:30, the Festivities Commission, in collaboration with the Xarxa d'Iniciatives Pinedenques (XIP), will offer a communal dinner in the same park. After the GEM's speech, the Grup Germanor will stage the musical Broadway Sant Roc.

The first weekend of the festival concentrates a good part of the activity. This Saturday, highlights include the Malgrat Cup football tournament, the kite workshop and flying by SCR La Barretina Vermella, the Blood Bank Marathon, the botifarra tournament, the 71st Trobada de Gegants by the Colla de Geganters i Grallers, the 29th Nit de la Sardana, and the correfoc by the Colla de Diables Ratpenatsinfernals.

Sunday will start with the Matinades of the geganters and grallers, who will also organise their traditional activities on Malgrat Centre beach, in front of the Xesco Boix square, featuring chocolate, the 29th Cocous Contest, children's entertainment, a colour war, and xeringada. That same day, the 47th Concurs de Pintura Ràpida by the Cercle Artístic Malgratenc, the second session of the Malgrat Cup, the 29th Trobada de Motos Antigues, the family day of Club Undediez, the 30th Trobada de Puntaires, the 6th BTT children's gymkhana, the awards ceremony for the 'Engalana't' contest, and the Cantada d'Havaneres with Americanus, Les Anxovetes, and Els Cremats will take place.

The programme will continue until Sunday, August 16. On Monday the 10th, there will be Catan games and a puzzle contest, and one of this year's novelties will be the family workshop Rodoreda: flors i festa, organised by La Guarda del Llibre, which will take place on Monday, August 7, from 18:30 to 20:00 at the Peixateries Velles. On Tuesday, there will be children's entertainment with La festa by Els Germans Cartoon in Parc Francesc Macià.

On Wednesday, August 12, Barrakids, the party for the little ones, will include the family concert Bon Vent, a tribute to Xesco Boix, by Ebri Knight, and a performance by Brou!, with food truck service. On Thursday the 13th, the Festivities Commission will celebrate a new edition of Malgrat de Bar with the xaranga Entrompats Band and Perkutes, as well as vespreig and musical bingo by the Women's Association and outdoor cinema featuring Bob Esponja: Una aventura pirata and Wolfgang.

On Friday the 14th, the Amics de la Sarsuela will perform Cançó d'amor i de guerra in the Jardins de la Torre de la Vídua de Can Sala, and there will be a children's correfoc and the first night of Barrakes with Mighty Fire, Romàntic Dimoni, Balkan Bomba, and Dj Trapella. Saturday the 15th will be a sports day, featuring the 6th Paddle Surf up to the Pilona, the 2nd Malgrat Cup tournament, the Memorial Manolo Martín Muñoz chess tournament, the 61st Gran Premi de Festa Major cycling event, sailing outings, and the 15th Cursa del Miner de Ferro by GEM, along with watermelon throwing, a concert by the Coral Atzavara, and the last session of Barrakes with Triquell, Funktory, and La Tropical.

The Sant Roc day, Sunday the 16th, will close the festival with the drawing contest by the Barretina Vermella, the religious service presided over by the Bishop of Girona, Octavi Vilà Mayo, the concert and dance with the Orquestra Montgrins, and fireworks by the Igual pyrotechnics.
