Earth, Wind & Fire Experience by Al McKay celebrated one of the major international events of the CaixaBank Terramar Festival in Sitges on Thursday. The band, performing with 13 musicians on stage, delivered the only concert of their tour in Spain with all tickets sold out in advance.
The live performance, marked by great instrumental precision, was built on a deep groove and a powerful rhythm section, featuring prominent guitars, brass arrangements, and vocal harmonies. Guitarist and former Earth, Wind & Fire member Gregory Moore led the ensemble, accompanied by vocalists Tim Owen, DeVere Duckett, and Claude Woods.
From the very first notes, 'Boogie Wonderland' placed the audience firmly in the realm of funk and dance music. Tracks like 'Serpentine Fire' and 'Shining Star' highlighted the strength of a band that combines power, precision, and elegance without losing spontaneity.
The repertoire also revisited the more melodic and sophisticated dimensions of Earth, Wind & Fire's legacy with 'After the Love Has Gone' and 'Reasons', two of the most intense moments of the night. 'In the Stone' showcased the strength of their orchestral funk, while 'Fantasy' brought forth the more evocative and spiritual side of their songbook.
The final stretch concentrated on two of the most celebrated moments. 'September', co-written by Al McKay, Maurice White, and Allee Willis, once again proved its status as a universal anthem. 'Let's Groove Tonight' concluded the evening with a final display of vitality and rhythm.
Earth, Wind & Fire Experience by McKay is the all-star band conceived around the legendary Al McKay, a seven-time Grammy winner and musical director of the original formation. McKay is not currently part of the live lineup due to health issues, but he remains the artistic architect and reference figure of the project.
The band tours stages around the world and has performed at festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Java Jazz Festival. Before arriving in Sitges, their 2026 tour had made stops in Austria, Italy, and the United Kingdom. After the concert at Terramar, they will continue their European schedule this Friday, August 7, in Hungary, on August 8 in the United Kingdom, and on August 10 in Italy.
The fifth day of the festival began with a new session of the Imprescindibles cycle, promoted by the Culture Department of the Sitges Town Hall, featuring the voice and guitar duo of Glòria Freixas and Alejandro Leguizamo, who fused boleros, bossa nova, jazz, and Latin music. Tonight, the spotlight will be on violinist Ara Malikian with his proposal 'Intruso'.
