A criminal with 19 prior offenses attempted to run over a patrol of Mossos on Torrent Gornal Avenue, in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, forcing the officers to shoot at the vehicle's wheels.
The Mossos d'Esquadra were forced to open fire on Thursday afternoon on Torrent Gornal Avenue, at the boundary between the La Florida and La Torrassa neighbourhoods of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, to stop a driver who attempted to run them over. The individual, with 19 criminal records, was subdued after shots were fired at the car's wheels.
VOX denounces lack of police support
The municipal spokesperson for VOX in L'Hospitalet, Francisco González, has criticized the local PSC government for what he considers a neglect of the security forces. "What happened in Torrent Gornal is an unsustainable reflection of a reality that the PSC insists on denying," he stated.
González has demanded an immediate increase in police patrols and an emergency plan against recidivism. "We cannot allow crime to turn working-class neighbourhoods into risk zones," he added.
Residents caught between fear and indignation
The incident has caused alarm among local residents, who report a growing sense of insecurity. "There are more and more incidents and the police can't keep up," commented a resident of La Florida. The L'Hospitalet City Council has yet to comment on the incident.
The Mossos d'Esquadra have confirmed that the detainee has already been brought before the judiciary. The far-right party has taken the opportunity to criticize the policy of 'beautifying the figures' of the council, referring to crime statistics.
A concerning recidivism
The detainee has 19 prior offenses, highlighting a problem of criminal recidivism in the city. VOX demands harsher measures to prevent these individuals from returning to the streets quickly. "The PSC is more concerned about not stigmatizing the criminal than about protecting the families of L'Hospitalet," González concluded.
The party has announced that it will bring the case to the next municipal plenary to demand political accountability and a firm commitment to public safety.
