The July council meeting of La Garriga has greenlit the regulatory bases for grants for dance schools, aiming to promote physical activity and sports values. Additionally, the creation of a public electric vehicle charging service has been approved.
The municipal council of La Garriga for the month of July has unanimously approved the regulatory bases for granting subsidies to the dance schools and centres in the municipality. The initiative, driven by the Sports department, seeks to promote dance as a physical activity and recognise the social and sporting work these centres carry out in the locality.
The Councillor for Sports, Àlex Gil, highlighted that “this is an important step for the world of dance in La Garriga, which is very extensive.” According to Gil, the grants aim to encourage healthy habits and sports values through dance, as well as to give visibility to a discipline that often finds itself in a “no man's land” between sport and culture.
During the debate, the councillor from 100% La Garriga, Susanna Segú, emphasised that dance schools “do very valuable work taking the name of La Garriga to many places, positively from both a sporting and cultural perspective.” For her part, Anna Cuadrado from ERC celebrated the proposal and reminded that dance lacks the recognition it deserves by not having its own federations. Marta Folch from the CUP also described the initiative as positive.
In the same session, the council approved the regulatory bases for grants aimed at financing expenses related to diversity support in educational centres and the associations of student families (AFA) in La Garriga. These aids will be directed towards promoting inclusive activities, reception services, dining, extracurricular activities, outings, and camps, with the aim of fostering the participation of all children.
Electric vehicle charging service
The council also gave initial approval for the creation of a public electric vehicle charging service in the municipality, as well as the municipal ordinance regulating the public price for the provision of this service at municipal charging points. According to the approved regulations, the cost will be €0.30/kWh for charging at semi-fast points and €0.60/kWh for charging at fast points, in both cases excluding VAT.
This measure represents a step forward in sustainable mobility in La Garriga, facilitating access to electric charging for residents and visitors at regulated prices. The service will be provided at municipal charging points, which will be progressively installed.
Resignation of councillor Anna Cuadrado
During the council meeting, the councillor from the ERC municipal group, Anna Cuadrado, presented her resignation from the position. Cuadrado wanted to thank the entire council and stated: “I leave the position with the peace of mind of having always tried to do things with honesty and coherence.” The spokespersons from the other municipal groups praised her work and thanked her for her dedication during her time as a councillor.
