The Town Hall of Barberà del Vallès will treat the palm trees against the red weevil in the early hours of 12th to 13th August, between 11 PM and 6 AM, to minimise disturbances.
In the early hours of 12th to 13th August, Barberà del Vallès will carry out a phytosanitary treatment against the weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus), a pest that affects palm trees. The operation will take place at night, between 11 PM and 6 AM, with the aim of reducing inconvenience to residents and ensuring the effectiveness of the service.
The operation will target specimens of Canary and date palms, margallones, and trachycarpus located in various parts of the city. The affected areas include the Plaza de la Vila and Plaza Habana, the parks of Can Amiguet, Europa (including the dog area), and Central, as well as the car parks of Can Llobet and Can Serra. Planters such as those at the Marqueses de Barberà and the Virgen de la Asunción will also be treated.
The application method will consist of flooding the crowns of the affected palm trees, using the insecticide Decis protech, which contains deltamethrin as its active ingredient. The company in charge has the official registrations from the Generalitat de Catalunya for pesticide services.
During and after the treatment, residents are advised to avoid the presence of unauthorised personnel without protective equipment, remove pets from the application area, and respect a waiting period of two hours before re-entering treated spaces. Surfaces should also be allowed to dry before permitting access to people.
This operation is part of the municipal pest control plan, which aims to preserve urban trees and prevent the spread of the weevil, an insect that can cause irreversible damage to palm trees. Residents of Barberà del Vallès should pay attention to signage and follow instructions during the night of the treatment.
