The Manresa City Council will modify the circulation of six roads around carrer Guimerà starting Monday, August 3, due to the urban transformation of the area.
From next Monday, August 3, several roads around carrer Guimerà in Manresa will change their direction of circulation. The changes are part of the improvement of urban mobility in the central area, which includes the modernization of carrer Guimerà itself and its surroundings. The aim is to reorganise traffic to facilitate connections between the road to Vic, the promenade of Pere III, and the Circumval·lació ring road.
Specifically, carrer Sant Joan Baptista de la Salle will be downhill between the road to Vic and carrer Bonsuccés. Meanwhile, carrer Bonsuccés will be uphill, towards carrer Era del Firmat, from where vehicles will be able to head towards carrer Circumval·lació or return to the road to Vic. Carrer Puigterrà de Baix will be downhill from the road to Vic to Circumval·lació, although the section between Bonsuccés and Circumval·lació will remain a dead end until the works on carrer Guimerà are completed.
The direction of carrer Infants will also be modified. Access will be from plaça Infants towards the road to Vic, and vehicles coming from the Muralla wishing to access carrer Sant Joan Baptista de la Salle must pass through this point, as left turns from the road to Vic towards Bonavista will not be allowed.
The reorganisation will also affect carrer Canyelles, which will now be entirely downhill, from Circumval·lació to the promenade of Pere III. This side of the promenade will also see a change in traffic direction, which will now be towards plaça Espanya. In this case, the work to modify the signage will begin on Tuesday, August 4.
The Manresa City Council expects that by the end of the year, once the urbanisation works on carrer Guimerà are completed, the reorganisation of this sector of the city will be completed with the change of direction of carrer Era Firmat between Circumval·lació and Bonsuccés, and with the incorporation of the section of carrer Sant Joan Baptista de la Salle into the pedestrian island between Bonsuccés and Guimerà. The continuity of vehicle traffic from carrer Puigterrà de Baix towards Circumval·lació will also be restored, making all circulation changes permanent.
These modifications aim to improve traffic flow in an area that has undergone significant urban transformation. Drivers who regularly travel through the centre of Manresa should pay special attention to the new signage to avoid confusion and possible penalties. The council recommends planning journeys in advance during the first days of implementation.
The reform of carrer Guimerà is part of a broader sustainable mobility plan that the Manresa City Council is promoting in the city centre. These actions aim to reduce through traffic in the historic core and gain space for pedestrians and cyclists. Local residents have been informed through posters and direct communications.
